Checking it out for a friend. I have a TRX 450R and put a 03 CRF 450R cam in her.

Searched around, but it seems all you guys use is a hotcams cam. Anything else work for a 400EX??

Web cams.

They are really good camshafts.
They have three diffrent kinds for the 400.

This is for there three diffrent cams.

VG-H04 / $20.00 / Valve Guide, Shortened

#3= Special profile designed for TT/flat track racing engines. Requires valve springs, shortened guides, high compression piston and exhaust system. Compression release removed. Hardwelded rockers highly recommended!

Accessories Required:
HR-H00 / $65.00 / Rocker Arm
VC-H04 / $95.00 / Valve Spring Kit With Titanium Retainers

I would recommend going with a Hotcam though. You dont have to do anything special with a Hotcam...just break it in and go!!

Sparks makes a drop in cam for the 400EX. but without installing rockers or guides, Hotcams or Sparks is about it

Hot Cam stage 2 and call it good. Unless you don't mind upgrading other parts, i've heard pretty good thing about web cams.

XR 400 cam, I knew there was one.

But does anyone know if it helps on the newer 400's?

Sure. It's a bit more aggressive than the stock cam. Although, IMO not enough to be worth it when there are other choices available. I consider it a nice option for someone that wants a bit more and insists on staying with OEM parts. The XR400 HRC cam would be better but good luck finding one of those.
