Just postin so il get an e-mail when the pics are up. I'm interested. I have a set of studded tamers...

Ahh I'm glad that other guy posted because I almost forgot but these are the 11 inch wide tires and not the 9.5 inch wide ones and as you can see there is like one tread taken out all around on each side and 2 in the center. I took far away pictures and then took close ups so you can see the exact pattern. As for how they were grooved I do not know because my friend gets them grooved for me by the guy who builds his motors. Let me know if you cant see them and I will email them to you.

That looks interesting... How do they grip like that? Problably better than before... If mine werent studded id think that cutting every other row would be good. Especially in softer. I've seen people who cut like that on dirtbikes for hill climbs... But i think it would do better because the knobs are too close to eachhother for any material to get inbetween them and still have surface area to grip to the ground with. How they come stock they just spin spin spin.

Well yes it helps grip alot more and makes the tires alot nicer then stock. I like these because they grip nice but not too much so i can still slide.

some guys use a grooving iron, i use a hoof trimmer, to grove tamers. patterns vary depending on you imagination.

Where do i get a hoof trimmer? I've mainly seen people use grooving irons. But they always end up catching the tire on fire or dropping it in their lap.

That's the first time I've seen them grooved that way... though I dont see many 11" rears... most use the 9.5" rears, better traction. Like Quinn said, they can be grooved any way you see fit though. Saves a ton of weight on an already light tire. Put all the shavings in box or bag and feel how heavy it is after, it's amazing.

Its kinda weird that you think the 9.5 inch ones grip better then the 11 inch ones.

well, there's alot of logic behind it... The less the surface area touching the grounnd the more weight is being put on the ground. Since alot of weight is being put on it, the more it can bite into the ground... This is mainly good for hard pack, snow, and sometimes sand... The more surface area, the more surface area that the weight is being distributed to so the lesser the bite it can dig but there is still more area being pushed on. Wider's better for mud and soft but if it's too wide it wont be as good for hard pack... Smaller ones defiantly weigh less so that's a plus too.

feed and seed supply, some hardware stores, and industrial supply centers. that's about the only places you could get them, i have had mine for so many years i don't remember where i got them.

I'd say about the only place the 11" tires might hook up better is the sand, only because it would float and not dig so much. Other than that I prefer the 9.5's over the 11's any day. Plus the 9.5's look cooler IMO haha:macho

well then it looks like I am going to be runnning my 9.5 wide ones then becuase I have this set of 11s that I got cheap so i will just throw them on my bajas and use them for trails

i think for my next set of tires, im going with turf tamers. How long do they last?

04-15-2008, 08:58 PM
Well i ran all summer on my 9.5 inch wide ones on my beadlocks and id say they are like 80-85%

Depends where you're riding. If you're using them on hardpack, which is where they work the best, they wear fast, obviously. They really are not a long lasting tire at all, especially if you groove them. Once they wear out a little, and lose that sharp edge, they just dont hook the same.

04-16-2008, 03:32 PM
Wow thats hard to believe that they wore out quick for you everyone I know that has them love them because they can use them forever.

I liked them, i just studded them for the ice. Worked well in snow too... till i slapped 25's on... But as for ice width i would reccommend thinner than 11" unles you're 350 lbs. i'm 200 and was a bit slippery if it tugged through the snow. The thinner ones would keep quite a bit of pressure on the separate knobs so those studs will jam right into the ice. After the winter of riding i lost about 20 of 1200 screws but that was because i got stuck in wet snow about 5 times and kept bein dumb and goin through dirt in it.

They are notorious for wearing out kind of quick. I think we have different definitions of what wore out is. Professional racers use a set of holeshots for one race and toss them, because they are "worn out". Just because they still have knob showing doesn't mean they're any good still.

what is grooving tires and what does it do. from the pics you had posted someone it looks like you cut half of a lug off?

It's supposed to be the whole lug, sometimes it looks like half because they mound the rubber up (outward) around the lug for support and stregnth. If you cut that, it affects the ride alot because when you go over a bump it can puff out more. Also it looks like half because you cant get the injected mold texture after grooving. It gives it less surface area so more pressure is put on the different lugs and it gives it more area behind each lug so the dirt will stay in place. It also cuts down on alot of weight. Someone really should just get a set of tires, groov them and show the company what they did so they can make it... You also have to groov it for different terrain. For sand and hill climbs for the tamers you can cut every other row out ( you would really need to count rows first just to be sure for your tire size.

I love my tamers.

04-27-2008, 05:47 PM
Well I have a set of 9.5 inch tamers I have been running on my bajas for trails and they are like still almost new but I didnt know how good they hook up ungrooved becuase I just climbed the biggest hill at the ash dump near my house with ease and it is no little hill. I am thinking about throwing those 11.5 inch onces on my bajas for like wet races and using the 9.5 inch ones on my beadlocks for races becuase they hook up great and they corner amazingly. After I wear out the 3 sets of tamers I have I am thinking about looking at quadcross though.
