I bought a pretty beat up R a while back and now Im starting the rebuild process - Im going to try to keep this updated and have some pics for you guys ( I know a lot of people like to see these kind of threads).
Its an 86 - frame was cracked in about 6 places, seat latch area was a mess. Only things that I kept were the frame, motor, and pipe. Im starting completely over.
I had the frame sandblasted last week now Im trying to get everything welded. Got a Bare Performance gusset kit - any of you guys use these? I didnt really care for them that well. Some of them didnt fit up that well, but I ended up using some of them. Completely removed the seat latch area and relaced it with my own version (doesnt have the airbox mount yet in the pic )
Let me know what you guys think and any suggestions

I just started on an 88. I am also glad to see people rebuilding them. I hate seeing them defaced with 350X motors and stuff in them. Don't ruin the legendary quad's frames, there is a limited number left. But you look like you did a good job, I saved your pics to keep in mind for my frame. I just had some cracks welded up on it also.

Sorry about the language, I didn't even realize the one word was a bad word....haha

ameier5051 - I see it from both sides. I like to see people keeping the R's "original" and alive, but I also like to see the custom bikes. I had a 350rx and set one up for another member of this site. But this bike will have the R motor in it!!

Brian,

I just saw this post, however that Laeger swingarm was an 88-89. You have an 1986 frame. I had the 86-87 walsh, but why did you want the Laeger?

Let me know what you want to do. I thought we were clear on that.

Can someone chime in... Will this work? if not, I will gladly refund your $ minus the shipping and pp fees incurred. ;)

Dan

He'd either have to weld in a late model mount into the older frame, or screw with the swing arm. It would be best to just get a different arm i imagine. Unless you dont mind welding the new mount in.

Brian perfected the frame on my 350rx build.... i bought a frame that was allready massacered instead of taking a good R frame to do my build.

Brian the frame looks good, gonna be an awsome bike when your done with it!

Got pictures of it? I've got an old 350X, that I thought about building a 350rx with using an old 250R, 450R, or 400ex frame... Little curious about the build.

sorry its taken so long to get these pics up
finally got it together (still a few odds and ends to go but the majority of its done)

have the frame painted for now until I decide what color scheme to go with. Got the motor all redone (runs VERY strong) still using the Houser/Elka front and Laeger/PEP rear setups. Has an FMF/CT exhaust on it now, but I have a LRD AND ESR exhausts coming. I also have the rear shamrocks to match the fronts but I dont have them on yet.

Let me know what you guys think and any suggestions on colors would be appreciated
thanks
