I bought this carb used, was told it was a 300 carb, but it turned out to be a 400 carb. kid also said it had full exhaust/uni/no lid.

I found out that stock 400's have a 38 pilot, 148 main.

my carb has a 40 pilot, and 114 main. pilot, has the keihin logo on it but the main has no logo, just says 114. does no logo mean its a dynojet.

if so what would it compare in keihin numbers because I am gonna go back to keihin jets.

I am gonna be running no lid, a UNI filter and a full DG exhaust.

cant tell you what i was running before the 300 carb cuz its never ran before....

the 40 might be okay but 114 would probably be WAY off. i'm running a 17x (forgot what exactly but it's in the 170's) and it runs nice there. granted, mine has more stuff, i wouldn't imagine there being that much of a gap

170's?

what pilot are you running?

170 sounds huge, 450's dont even run a 17x very often do they?

not sure what 450's use but it wouldn't be relevant because they're different carbs and different engines, ya know?

my pilot is a 42 or a 40 right now. i'm thinking 40. just bump yours up to the stock 400's main jet (155) and work from there.

did the 400 get an increase in the stock main in the newer models, from what ive read, 148 was stock.

no, they're the same. you're right, though. it is a 148, i just looked it up. for some reason i thought i read a while back that it was a 155?

148 would still be a good starting point. if anything, it might even be pretty close. just give that a shot, take it for a few rides, check your plug, and go from there.

just wanted to know if you got the jetting figured out. I will soon be doing this to mine.

40 pilot popped like hell, and the pipe got HOT QUICK at that setting(I started with the 40 pilot and 148 main.

right now I have a 42 pilot, 152 main, needle on 4th clip, fuel screw 2- 1/2 out and it runs pretty good, no popping on decel, no WOT stumbling. di have a bad bog and it would kinda pop then go when you cracked it open but going from the 3rd to 4th clip and 150 to 152 all but eliminated it completely, rarely does it but sometimes. I havent been messing with it lately. I have a 154 that Im gonna see what it does, and get a plug read, seems pretty rich for what I got to me, but it runs good.
