300ex has to be way better.

Raptor:
-396 lbs dry weight
-Cast aluminum swing arm w/rebound, High-/Lo-speed compression and threaded preload adjustment, 10.1-in travel
(MUCH longer swingarm which means more leverage plus it has a linkage to soften the shock.)

300ex:
-390 lbs fully loaded
-Swingarm with single shock; five-position spring preload adjustability; 7.9 inches travel
(MUCH shorter swingarm and very close to the 250ex.)

between the 300ex shock and our solid strut/bar we use for drag racing.Just because the 300ex and the 01 raptor fits does not mean they work right. If you get the raptor shock rebuilt for your weight and the quads weight,it would be cheapest and best way to go at this time.
I think m.h.s.c.#527 has a elka rear shock, not for sure, maybe he can tell us the cost of a good shock and if it's worth the money are not.
The right thing would be for Honda to fix this problem.:D lol

thnxs all for your input. as prairiemonster points out there is no "cut and dry' answer
