I have a 416 kit and am ready to have the cylinder bored but I need to know how to bore the cylinder so that I can tell the machine shops how I need it done. Is the cylinder to be bored to the exact size of the piston or do I need it bigger to accommodate the ring expansion?

Just take the piston and cylinder to the machine shop, they will know how to set the tolerance. It should be around .003 for 80mm and up bore size;)

truthfully they should have the pistons and rings for the best ..however u can buy bigger rings i believe if necessary or file them down(atleast for cars u can) ...but yes piston plus rings for the best fitment imo..

The best machine shops will want to check and set ring end gaps after machining. If they don't, you'll need to. Proper end gap is critical to sealing and keeping things from locking up.

Ok I will take everything to them. Does anyone know what the ring gaps should be?
