Should a 10:1 J&E 416 be pulling the head studs out / blowing head gaskets? I'm on my second head gasket. First one was a fiber/metal, this one is a cometric with three thin sheets of metal. I torqued to 25 & then 35 in a crossbolt patten. Everthing was clean dry and flat too. It feels like they are torquing down, I know someone out there knows whats going on or has had this problem.

With that comp they should'nt pull out but maybe the studs were bad to begin with

It has been my experience that 400EX head studs will pull the threads loose in the cylinder anytime that the cylinder gets too hot breaking down the aluminum. Pre-detonation could be one cause of this. I have heard that getting the head too hot during re-sleeve can also cause this. Lastly over-torqueing the head studs, obvious.

Well I put it back together, well see. Thanks for the info. I'll do heli-coils and HD studs if they go again.

FYI, if you drill them for Heli-coils, you can't install HD studs.
