i've heard around 7 to 7-1/2 for mx depending on the track conditions.

You're definitely low. Too low if you ask me.

I run about 7.5 rear, 7.75 front.

Mines at 6 3/4 rear and 7 in front. You can change them a little bit but the front should usually be 1/8-1/4 higher than the rear.
