I know there are probably threads out there about this, but the search system won't let me search for words with less than 3 characters so......

I need some opinions on what cam to run in my 06' 450r for trails and maybe some XC. I have to stick with Honda brands to avoid voiding my warranty so I'm choosing between:

-06' HRC cam (or possibly other year HRC cams)
-02' CRF cam
-03' CRF cam

Any suggestions? I appreciate any help in advance. Thanks

If you have an HRC cam, installed by the dealer, how could the warranty be void? Honda MADE it for the 450R.

Can't really say for the CRF cams though...

not voided...but in the manual it says to replace piston after 15 hours of use with the HRC kit. that is where they get you with the warranty.

I have heard a lot of good things about the 02' CRF Cam. Its suppose to give u good low to mid range power which would be good for the trail, I also heard that its really similar to HotCams Stage 1, which I have and I really like it for tails.

Theres is no 04 HRC cam. There was no 04 HRC kit at all. (But you can use the 05 HRC kit on the 04 bikes.)

The 05 HRC cam is its own cam, not the same as any other year.

The 06-07HRC cams and 05CRF cam are all the same.

I'm not sure what the 06+ CRF cams are.

The 02 and 03 CRF cams are very similar, the 03 CRF being a lil more aggressive in mid range.
But I think now the 02 and 03 CRF's are the same part number.

Also, when I say CRF, I'm referring to the CRF450R. Figured I should make that clear since there is like 50 different CRFs :P

honda will void the warenty because he has a rossier exhaust and they will want to see the recipts from where a certified honda technichian has done every last bit of mantenance.

I personally have seen it voided for not running the stock tires.

In that sort of LAME situation, i really depends on the dealer. Either their good about that sort of thing (and get future business) or they are real d***s about it and DONT get future business.

We only have one dealer in town, and they're so-so. good and bad

all this warranty talk makes me glad I didn't pay extra for it, but nevertheless I talked to my local dealer and they said that a crf cam shouldn't void the warranty as long as they install it (they're pretty laid back). So it sounds for the most part that people like the 02-03 crf cam better than the HRC cam, is this right?

If u need to warranty stuff just put the stock parts back on, simple as that.
Just make the bike as stock as possible.
And for god sake if u race take ur number plates off.
Getting free warranty work is worth destroying a set of numbers.

And it really all comes down to how anal the dealer is.

My neighbor would of had a brand new engine if he just took his pipe and air filter back to stock parts when he took it in for warranty work.
