For the racing folks here (not the drag racers), I'm just curious, how much caster are you folks running on your 400's?

In simple terms, It's how far, in degrees (forward or aft, generally aft) your upper ball joint is compared to your lower ball joint.

2-4 degrees is about right...but I would look at this site for directions...not pro mo'ing someones site but it tells you all about it.

I have mine at about 1/8th in. The lower is farther out by 1/8 inch. I don't know what the degree is, but it seems to work for all around. Don't go too radical or the slightest twitch will send you in the other direction. (Not really, but you get the point)

The December ATV Sport Mag has an article on Alignment. I says that if you run a rounded tire, you should be neutral (straight). If you run a a tire with a flatter contact, the top should be in 5 to 7 degrees.

Thanks for the feedback so far. :)

If you folks could when you reply, let me know what type of racing (TT, XC, etc...) you are doing along with what your caster is set at.

Thanks!!

That's the way I feel (at least for XC & aggressive Desert)!

Out of curiosity, I was just checking in with some of the racers here to see what they are running.

433rd asked a ouestion about "caster" and then the thread moved to answers about "camber". You can not "see" caster, when you guys talk about the tire leaning in at the top that is camber. Caster is a frt to rear relation of the ball joints. If the top ball joint is more to the rear than the bottom, that is positve caster. Caster can not be adjusted unless your a arms use heim joints at the frame mounts.

4 degrees caster is generally a good set up for motox.
camber depends more on tire type, rounded type tires are best at 0 to -2 while flatter tires will run more negative camber.

The camber is set to get better tire contact in the corners.

Caster affects how the thing holds its line. The more positive it is the better it will track and the less darty it will be, but the trade off is that the steering will not be as quick. It will corner better with less caster. 4 degrees is a good compromise
