I agree, however Cody is learning a great deal. Integrity, honesty and respect and much more as he helps with these machines and the reviews. He is growing in more ways then one and for that I am thankful and feel I am the lucky one:p

Please tell me what kind of camera you have. I know I posted this on one of your other threads but they look so real that they look fake. If you get what Im saying. You are automatically drawn to the quad which is the focus of the picture. Often when someone shows you a pic everything blends together. I LOVE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY

I shoot all nikon gear, but honestly its not just the equipment. if it were just equipment then everyone with such and such a model would all take the same picture quality, and that just aint happing:devil: You dont pick up a scalpel and do brain surgery:p You dont pick up a hammer and become a carpenter, and you dont just buy a camera and become a photographer. It takes work and training to be the best you can be....just like everything in life.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8622360@N03/2352423143/" title="Training day by mycamerahatesme, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2050/2352423143_699dd5ac2d_o.jpg" width="1000" height="664" alt="Training day" /></a>

There's a lot to getting a good picture besides a great camera...you really need to sit down and fine tune your lighting and shutter speed.

I'm learning as I go, but you find that if your flash and shutter speed/timing are off, it just won't look right.

You could have your flash set up for say, 20', but if your shutter timing is off, the flash will be past or be in front of your target. If your shutter timing and flash are together but the shutter speed is too slow, you'll have a big, bright blur.

Most basic cameras do ok taking static shots in low light because the shutter slows to allow more light in. Problem with action shots is that you end up with blur again.

Also, with flash, comes flash focus...when your camera flashes, much of that light is spread out over a wide path....using light reflective devices around the flash, or having people hold up reflective screens, focus more light to the target giving even more pop, and when it's just right you get pictures like Pappy has...clear backgrounds in dark conditions but the target looks almost superimposed, or in brighter settings, the whole scene comes alive as in the Kawasaki picture.

Again, I'm just learning, not to Pappy quality yet, but I was at Disneyland at night, and was able to get a close up from about 80' away from the target and got a clear picture of one of the characters....I was stunned!!!

Hope that helps.

TPR is in the ball park with regards to learning how to set everything up, which is where training and practice comes in. Far to many buy a camera and think they can obtain the same results as someone who has mastered thier chosen subject.

Example...

This shot was taken by my wife, with one of my cameras as I was setting up my flash heads. She had it on Aperature priority and allowed the camera to make the lighting choices.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8622360@N03/2326970265/" title="kfx 050a by mycamerahatesme, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3021/2326970265_feaeb80407_o.jpg" width="1000" height="677" alt="kfx 050a" /></a>

A few days later I stepped in and using my settings (all manual camera and flash) I took this one from the same spot in almost the same lighting.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8622360@N03/2332194236/" title="DUR_2314a by mycamerahatesme, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3165/2332194236_288b914352_o.jpg" width="1000" height="664" alt="DUR_2314a" /></a>

Photography is all about balancing light and your vision. There are certain aspects that involve the tech side of things, but just as much emphasis on what a photographer wants you to see will either make or break the shot. When you start balancing all aspects, you start achieving what you set out to do. I encourage everyone who is interested to take a basic photography course. I still read daily, study daily, practice daily and will be attending even more training throughout my life. You can always skimp by with average, but whats the point in that
:p

I get ya I get ya. I see what you are talking about between yours and wifes pic. But still the color in your wifes shot is much better then most pictures I see. But it just pops in your shot! To bad I didnt see pics from you previously....I would have beged you do my wedding!!

Photo people can make a killing. Often a 1-3k just for 8hrs of work with no picture prints included.

Pappy
04-09-2008, 05:06 PM
a typical wedding (yes with digital equipment) will take the photog easily 75 hours to do. Thats all work inclusive without prints. To many people think you just show up and shoot:p There is good money in it if thats your bag, and I have done a few but prefer action photography.

The power is smooth for sure, but there is no lack of it.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8622360@N03/2401337909/" title="ds450 288a by mycamerahatesme, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2205/2401337909_2d9a1e30fb_o.jpg" width="852" height="1000" alt="ds450 288a" /></a>

Its very predictable power makes for fun riding!

Pappy....maybe you can't comment on this....but how do YOU like the DS? I'd like to hear your adult standpoint. I'm thinking of getting a new quad.....have a predator right now. Hard to determine between a 450r, outlaw(of some-sort), or just seen this quad.

Pappy
04-09-2008, 10:20 PM
I cant really comment yet because other then a lap around the yard I really havent riden it. I will next week tho! (I have been having a terrible time with my shoulder and did not want to get it hurting before this weekends race so that is the reason im not shredding those ITP's:devil: )

i will state that I wont usually buy a first year unit, and with as high tech as some models are, that statement is ringing loud and clear! I have heard rumors and 2009 should be...uh....exciting:devil:

codys feedback thus far has been good. he likes the power, states it handles well but we havent let him open it up yet:p break in is now complete, so after a service and me getting in some time on it, we will set the suspension up for him and drop the hammer at BPG as well as get some serious input from other riders that will be testing with us.

Okay cool Pappy! I'll be waiting for some more pictures and your ride report!!! I'm a little leary of the first year quads too(although I haven't had any trouble with my 03 pred...others have).

I heard Polaris might have something up their sleeve for this next year....

And, glad Cody likes it! Does he have experience on anything else of that caliber though(like yfz, trx, kawasaki, etc)?? Just wondering, when he says the power is there....what he's comparing it to.

Thanks pappy!!

Pappy
04-10-2008, 06:31 AM
Yeah I would say he has earned the right to comment on just about any quad :p We still have to explain certain aspects of power, handling and why the rev limiter on this yfz wasnt a shift indicator:devil:

(seriously, he gives the most un biased feedback of anyone I know:p all he wants to do is ride and doesnt care what it is, who made it or what it cost)
