ok i'm a newbie, and first off if any admin wants to move this post...go right ahead. ok now to the subject. the reason i joined this site is because i'm kinda looking to get a new quad but not too sure. and one of my options is the 250x. i have a couple questions. first off, if i can get any year, which year would be the best to buy? also, what are some known problems. are they reliable? if i choose to modify it and the compression gets high, will it be hard to kick over? and lastly, do they have an electric start kit for it? oh, and i do mostly trail riding. thanks everyone for helping the new guy:) lol.

the 92 i think is best. just because its newest so a few years off the age cant hurt. no electric start mod. compression is alrite. you can take off the decompression lever if u want to get more compression otherwise get a new piston. a problem i have is i tend to drop a few valves every full moon but i ride it hard so i expect some problems here and there. you can add a few other bike parts to it like 250r or 400ex aarms n shocks in front to get wider and longer travel. a 400ex stock carb is a good bolt on too. hope it helped

I personally like the 250X, I dont own one at the moment, but it will likely be my first project quad! They are very reliable, like any Honda! I like kick start over electric! :) Good leg warm-ups! Good luck on your search. Oh and the newest is always a good idea, just those few less years on it.

A 250x is a great bike to start with. Very reliable and a lot of fun. Especially for those with not a lot of extra cash to spend on their quad. (like me) Mines an 87 that i bought at the beginning of the year for a very good price, especially considering I have no problems keeping up with a buddy on his newer 300ex in the trails. Another friend of mine is building up a 250x right now that should be a real screamer. So you can find them right, and as you get more comfortable, they have potential to be a strong machine. Good luck in your purchase.

While I don't own one I am planning on buying one in the spring or later this winter.

Some of the 87's had transmission problems. There alot of good 87's out there though.

If you want electric start I think you should get a 300ex.

I have had alot of suspension problems on my 300ex.Broken shocks and cracked swingarm among other things.

These bikes can be built to really thump. You choices are endless as far as mods go.Either motor or chassis.

There great bikes.

I had a 92 250x, it was my first four stroke, i loved it. it was faster than 300ex's no doubt, hotter cam, shorter stroke, and lighter made the 250x faster, ill own one again one day.

hey i've got an 87 250x and i have only one problem with it, my rear shock is leaking oil and is busted. they are very good for modifying, i've got an aftermarket exhaust, air filter, tires, rims, etc. the kick start is very reliable, i havenever had a problem with starting. and it is very easy to manuever, low gearing makes short turns easy. good luck with your search
