Ideas to get the bearing in this picture out.

I can't reach around from the other side, there isn't an inner race to grab onto, and there's not much clearance between the case and bearing on the far side.

And never mind the arrow, crack, or the brass shavings. :uhoh:

Warm up the aluminum around the bearing with a small torch, turn the case so that the bearing is down on a bench and rap on the oposite side of the case with a dead blow hammer. Might fall out. If not, carefully tack something onto the outer race with a welder so you can pull on it with a slide hammer. Again warm up the aluminum first.

Did the rod let go in that motor?

And I just so happen to have bought a welder. I'll try warming tapping it first, but I'm not too optimistic with the bearing seat being ferrous.

Yes. It's an XR650R that was run low of oil. The big end is the first thing to go when that happens. I'm not worried too much about the case, but the bottom of the cylinder caught a few pieces through the nicasil lining, so I'm hoping that's low enough to not cause problems.

You need a tool called a blind bearing puller. You can rent one at your local auto parts house. It will pull that right out without any frustration.

Motion Pro sells one for about $200

Or, if that's a little too steep, Harbor Freight Tools sells one for about $30. ;)

I have one about 45 minutes away without traffic, and they close in an hour. I wonder if I can make it......
