well i think im switching to bikes for some good reasons.

i want to get a 250f, after riding my friends ktm250sx-f i know i want a 250 four stroke. but the question is which?

ive heard that the YZ is the most reliable which gets my attention, cause i don't need to be the fastest. im a honda guy at heart and like the crf250r the most, but i hear their valves need alot of maintenance and cause problems. i have heard nothing good about the rm-z250 and nothing about the KX250f. i can't afford a ktm either so they're out of the question:p

what experience do you guys have with them? any tips?

go with a yami or a kawi. imo, the crf250 is junk, the valves are so bad. i no from experience, and i think the double pipe is stupid. just my 2 cents:p

I have a 2006 kx250f and I love it. The 04-05 kawi's were bad. In 06 and up they were fixed and its a way different bike. I heard many good things about the yamaha.

depends what year your looking at. 06-08 yamahas are very similar with minimal changes ive notices and thats a good thing, the bikes run great imo! If your lookin into 07's do not let suzuki slip past you, they are tyical suzuki and handle great and with a little in the motor your bikes will run like a raped ape. Then there is the ever popular crf, which im not a hige fan of for a couple reasons, some very miniscule and others not so small. 1st reason is the valves, they have been pretty much been considered junk by alot of people. 2nd would be hondas are very cold blooded and can be a PITA to start after its been sitting for a couple days and so forth, and then the whole dual pipe thing is just a big scheme. It looks cool yah, but costs money and you lose hp?! doesnt sound very smart to me!

04-05 kawi/zuki (same bikes) had weak 1st and 2nd gears and overheated. Change the rad cap from a 2.1 to a 2.6 and your overheating will be solved.

I really like the yzf's. Really not a bad year for them besides 06 or 07 I believe. Lots of people complained about clutch issues. Crf's you pretty much hit spot on. 04-06 had soft valve trains and the valves always got sucked down in the head. As spanky said, the dual exaust is cool, but wait til you want something aftermarket :eek2:

04-05 rmz, scroll up.

With the newer bikes (06 and up) you honestly can't go wrong with any of them. They are all great bikes. I like the rmz mainly due to handling. Every suzuki I've owned has always had amazing handling. The yzf's are GREAT overall bikes. Something about them I just didn't like though. I just couldn't put my finger on it, but I could never get comfortable on them. IDK why, maybe I'm just wierd. The new kxf's are awesome bikes too. Crf's, eh' not my favorite, but they're not bad. The sxf's are sweet. Look ugly, but fast! haha

05's were pretty good years. I really liked my 05. Never had any problems with it. $2800 isn't bad. What's all done to it if anything?

Buy 06 or newer if you get a 250f. Trust me, its worth the extra 3 or 400 dollars.;)

look around and im sure you can find a better deal then 2800 for a 05. my brothers is a 06 and he bought it for 2500 bucks, granted he got a pretty good deal and the bike was in great shape!

i was really looking at the 06+ ones, and it seems like they worked out most bugs by then.

so far my #1 choice is a 06 or newer yamaha, or kawi.

one things for sure, if i end up with a kawi ill never hear the end of it from my friends. i busted their balls from day 1 about kawasuckies hahaha

same here. I liked the yzf. Rmz is still probably my weapon of choice though. Still can't really go wrong with any 06 and newer 250f though. Now that they have production time on them and most of the bugs worked out, they're all nice bikes.

Yeah i did a lot of reading about issues people were having with all the 250f's, and the ktm and yamaha, seemed to be the most bulletproof for 06. Granted they all can have issues, but knock on wood, mines as nice now, as it was when i bought it new!

my buddy was looking to upgrade to an 08 250sxf and wants to sell his 06. I'm half tempted to look into buying it, but if I race lites C this summer, I'd much rather have my 200sx. I just need to get some serious suspension work done to it to make it a lot more track friendly for me.
