View Full Version : My Rebuild

First of all, I know it's a bit late to be doing a rebuild, but that's just how it all worked out.

I would also like to add that is the first time I've torn my quad down to the bare frame so if anyone has any advice, tips, tricks, or whatever, please feel free to share them.

This isn't a total "true" rebuild I guess. The reason for me doing this is to install a gusset kit and get the frame re-powdercoated along with other things. I also plan on replacing parts and bearings/bushings as needed and a couple of other odds and ends.

So this last Saturday (the 5th) I decided to get started.
Here's the quad before I began.

Now here's the way my quad sits right now.

Here's another pic of the wheeler before I started.

And here's a photoshopped pic of what I plan on doing to it.

The plan is to powercoat the frame/subframe, lower a-arms, nerfs and front and rear bumpers a wrinkle black.

If anyone has any other color suggestions lets hear them. I haven't sent anything out yet and won't be for a couple weeks either.

I took a TON of pictures inbetween all of the steps to document what order I took things apart and where cables and wires are routed. (Still I feel a bit overwhelmed by that and worried about getting it right when I put it back together)
I also used a lot of plastic bags and labeled all of the bolts and mounts and put everything in ordered boxes.
I feel like I've got everthing pretty well organized and well set.
Now it just all has to happen.

What are your thoughts on the color choice?

I thought about doing that. I don't really feel like messing around with taking tires off and what not. I want to eventually get another full set of rims, maybe I'll buy black ones then. For now I'm fine with it. Thanks for the input though.

I think your going about the rebuild the right way, keeping all of the parts in labeled bags and taking pics is a great way of keeping things organized to make sure they go back together right.

Thanks. I would like to get new plastic but that's not in the budget right now. It's not in that bad of shape either.

I also need to get new mx tires.

I ordered my gusset kit yesterday from Bare and that should be in on thur or fri.
From what I've read, Bare seems like a good kit to go with. My brother welds as a profession so I'm going have him install when he gets some free time.

Gonna be a sick quad when done. I think it matches better with the black frame and such.

do a really unique color, something that no one has, and make your whole build unique. and clean the engine alot mine is dirty too and with a clean engine it looks 10x better.

I looked that stuff up. Says it's acid based. Is that bad for seals and gaskets?

What other products out there clean up an engine and other parts well?

Update

So I got my frame back from being gusseted. It looks good, and I'm waiting on my other parts being shipped to me to send them off to the powdercoater.

In the directions it says something about these two gussets possibly being in the way of other parts, what do they interfere with? I didn't see the instructions so I don't know what it says for sure. Does anyone know what this could cause issues with? Do I need to grind them down a bit?

Ready to go.
I had all of the pieces of the Bare gusset kit installed.

it looks to me like those front gussets are in wrong. the mag cleaner is good to clean stuff with , just be real careful on the seals and pc and stuff.

Which ones?
I didn't see the directions nor was I there for the install, so I have nothing to compare them too.
My guy said he followed the directions completely.
