ok, got another rookie question. Whats best for the motor when slowing down. 1. Using only the brake 2. only downshifting 3. using brake and downshifting does downshifting hurt the motor?

engine braking will save your brakes a tad. A combination of engine braking and using your brakes is the best. Now, shifting down and redlining the engine is bad, you just need to feel it out when its a good time to down shift.

I was hoping that was the proper way to slow down. Just didn;t know if downshifting was tough on engine

if is if your rpms are running too high when you do it.. but down shifting on slowing down i rather use brake then shift down.. theres no real way of explaining it, you just feel it when your riding
