I don't quite know what they do. If you buy a rear shock with a link, does it improve the suspension ratio or is it just a extra way to make cash for them??? How do they work?

They give you more wheel travel and usually lower the quad.

Also in most cases a better leverage ratio too.

Usually they change the angle at wich the shock is orientated. Imagine having a pogo stick, stand it straight up and down and push down on it, it would compress wrather easy. Now imagine holding it slightly tilted and pushing straight down from the top, it takes more force to compress it.

Aftermarket ones usually hang well below the swingarm and it is important to have a good skidplate because hitting that on a stump or log could be very expensive!

i have an elka pro dual link and it works great. i would def reccomend a diff setup for the rear, rather than stock

A link lower the rear of the quad and adds in suspension travel but also removes that horrible buck that you get when you hit something hard most links stand the shock up more other then putting it at an angle so that the travle is down word more and the force isnt as choppy on the upward motion...
