For those of you that were interested in my rear racks, that I had shown in my A.A.D.S. Thread.

Below the pics here, is the correspondence emails between myself and the Manufacturer/Distributor.
I have yet to recieve a responce from th last 2 emails, and I am getting the feeling that they are not willing to correct this issue.

Just thought you all here might be interested in their position, before deciding on wheather to purchase from them or not.

As it stands right now for me, I am not very impressed with their Quality Control, Customer Service, or their intrest in Customer Satisfaction.
You should come to your own conclusions, and make your own decisions as to making purchases from them or not.

Hello my name is Ron Stephen,
last saturday, I purchased 2 of your universal racks, (part # 56-8670), and 2 bike mounts, one mount is for a '03 Honda 400ex (part # 56-8688), and the other mount is for a '03 honda 250ex (part# 56-8676).

I purchased them through Chapparal motorsports in San Bernadino, Ca.
and they were the last 2 racks and mounts they had in stock. they also told me that they will not be getting any more.

I installed the mount and rack on my 400ex this weekend and am very happy with it. it is quite solid and very sturdy. I am sure it will serve my purpose very well, and I cant wait to get the matching cargo bag to go out and use it.

the problem came along when I was going to mount the second rack on my wifes 250ex, and as I opened the box for the universal rack, I found it had been manufactured with a much smaller gauge material/tubing, and is rather flimsy. It is nowhere near as solid and sturdy as the other rack that I had just finished mounting on my 400ex.

I checked the part numbers on BOTH of the rack boxes, and verified that they are in fact both the same part numbers they are both the same shape and dimensions, it's just that one is much more flimsy, and no doubt, nowhere near as solid as the other.

I am also wanting to purchase more Quadboss products, as I do like many of the items you offer for my quad, but I would appreciate it very much if someone from your Customer Service dept could please contact me in reguards to this thinner/weaker rack.
What i would most appreciate is, if you could please exchange this rack for the muck more solid rack like the one I installed on my 400ex.

if you would like for me to send you some pics showing the difference between the 2 racks that both are identified with the same part number, but are in fact quite different, I would be happy to provide you with them.

please contact me asap at ph- 714-XXX-XXXX or email tri5ron@yahoo.com
thank you very much for your time,

Hey Ron,

Wow, this is news to me. Let me check with our manufacturer and see if they made a change and did not tell us about it.

hello Glen,
and thank you for the very fast responce.

yeah I was a little shocked when I pulled the second one out of the box, to find it quite a bit smaller tubing than the first one I installed. i was kinda bummed, and my wife was really bummed.
I come from a background of 26+ years in the aircraft/space systems manufacturing industry, and am quite familiar with suppliers dropping the ball and causing various problems. sometimes they just dont seem to "get it".

please let me know what you find out. as I stated earlier,.. I am quite satisfied with the first/(larger tubing) rack& mount on my 400ex. The other rack wouldnt hold up to the eaisest of trail riding, and am sure it is not up to your Quality Control standards.

I will be happy to send detailed pics of the two racks side by side for your comparison and descretion.

thanks again for the timely responce, I look forward to hearing from you.

Ron,

Due to lack of 3/4" tubing, they made one run with 1" tubing and you happened to get one of each. We have not rec'd one complaint on the 3/4" so you'll be fine.

Glen Urquhart
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Glen,
Thanks for the quick responce.
the rack with the 1" tubing is by far more sturdy and solid. The 3/4" rack has a very noticible more amount of flex to it and certainly wont hold up the same as the 1" rack.

I would greatly appreciate it if the 3/4" rack would be exchanged for another of the 1" racks.

I have many friends who have seen the racks through some pics I posted on a ATV riders website, and many of them are interested in purchasing the same rack/mount system.
No doubt they, (as well as I), will prefer the more solid and sturdy 1" framed rack.

Please let me know how this can be exchanged to the larger 1" rack. I do not have much confidence in the smaller 3/4" rack, and would be very disapointed to have the smaller one not perform, or hold up like the larger one.

If you would like to view the thread showing all the intrest I generated in your racks, it can be viewed at http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=343611&perpage=13&pagenumber=1

the thread didn't start out as a thread for only your racks, but it has kind of evolved into it. I'm sure it will be of intrest to you.

Thanks again for your quick responce, and please let me know about changing the 3/4" to a 1" rack.

We are the distributor of the QuadBoss brand, meaning these come for the manufacturer pre-boxed. For liability reasons, we cannot open boxes and search for the 1" rack. The only way we could find one is if the boxes clearly states it contains the 1" rack.Glen Urquhart

I'll ask to see if the boxes are different.

Glen,
I'm not sure I understand.
about the boxes....

btw- I will be away from my computer for the next few hours, so if you need to contact me I will respond later this afternoon, or I can be reached at 714-XXX-XXXX
Thanks,
have a great day,

So maybe it would be a good idea to contact the Quality Control dept. at Quadboss ?

With well over 26 years in the manufacturing industry myself, I am very aware of problems that can arise when vendors/suppliers make changes to a product, and how sometimes it can negatively affect future sales.
As well, I'm quite confident, that Quadboss would want to be aware of any issues with their products, like this.

I would be more than happy to speak with someone at Quadboss directly, so as not to put you in a liability issue with them. I certainly do not want to create any problems for you with them.

Would you mind forwarding our corespondence on this matter to their Quality Control dept.?
they are more than welcome to contact me directly, and you have my full permission to give them my contact information.
Or if possible, I would be happy to contact them. Just let me know,
Thanks again,
Ron Stephen
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ron,

We own the QuadBoss brand so you are in fact talking to QuadBoss. I'm the contact. I intend to speak with our manufacturer. I fully expect they will blame this on the steel shortage of a year or two ago. My beef with them is that they did not tell us about it or ask our advice.

Glen Urquhart
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Glen,
I've been away from the computer for a few days, and was hoping you were able to contact the person(s) who were in a position to authorize an exchange for the smaller framed rack.

I dont understand what the liability issue could be with you being the Owners of the Quadboss brand, and the manufacturer having a Quality Control issue.

I have had quite a few fellow ATV riders contact me through the thread I previously mentioned, who are also interested in purchasing one of these racks. They are waiting to see what is going to come of our correspondence before making a decision to purchase or not.
The fact is that the 3/4" framed rack is far more flexible, and far less sturdy than the 1" framed rack, and I am not happy with them being different parts, identified as the same part.

So I guess my only real question to you is,
As the Owner(s) of the Quadboss brand, are you, or are you not, going to exchange the smaller/inferior framed rack, for the sturdy 1" framed rack?.

Please let me know, thank you,
Ron Stephen

(No responce from Glen to the above email)

Hello Glen,
I was wondering if you had recieved my last email,
I have not heard for you in about a week, and if you were able to come up with a solution.
Please contact me and let me know,
Thanks,

Well I finally did get a responce from Quadboss, and as I suspected, They are not going to rise to the task, and exchange the smaller framed rack for the stronger rack.

Below is the reply they sent...

----------------------------------------------------------
In the 8 or so years we have been selling the original rear rack we have not had one complaint about strength nor one reported failure. The 1" unit you received was manufactured during the steel crisis of last year and was the only material our manufacturer could get. They did not ask our approval nor seek our advice. Therefore we will continue supplying the original rack only.

I just thought anyone who saw my other thread might be interested in what had transpired, and what their final position on it is.

Ride hard, and keep the rubber side down,...

Dang. I have definitely been watching and was hoping that it would be resolved with them making sure that they built the rack with the 1" tube. I've got real questions about the weight capacity of the 3/4" stuff.

They don't appear to offer the mounts to go on the newer EX's at any rate, so I may be looking at a Cambridge for ours. Thanks for keeping us all updated!
