Aluminum rear sprocket OK?

I did quite a bit of searching and didnt come up with much on this topic.

With meticulous maintenance on the chain/sprockets and also using good lubricant, (and knowing I dont use my ex very much), would an aluminum rear sprocket last a decent amount of time? I dont race it, just bomb around on trails and such.

I ask because I just acquired a brand new Vortex 36 tooth sprocket, and its the tooth count I wanna use. Should I sell it and buy a steel one, or just run it?

steel sprockets are supposed to be more durable but i have run aluminum sprockets with great success.Keep up on your drive train maintenance such as lube and tension and you should be fine,unless you live in the mud:D

as 2much and yourself stated, if you keep your chain clean, lubed, and adjusted aluminum should last a good long while.

after muddy rides i hit it with a toothbrush and liberal wd-40. once youre happy with it wipe off the excess wd with a rag. after its all cleaned up i use maxima chain wax for the final touch.

oh, and of course adjust if necessary.
