The 86-89 were top notch, they weren't produced in 90.

Yes they are a very good quad for racing thats why every pro MX racer used that geometry of frame back in the 90's and early 2000's. If your dad doesnt believe you, tell him to phone any aftermarket company like lonestar, houser, laeger and they will tell you the samething.

They were pretty much the only quad raced for 20+ years. In all forms of racing, XC, MX, TT, you name it they were to #1 choice. They have won more races than any other quad probably ever will. I would venture to say that some of the pros would still race them if the production rule wasn't in place. They are very good quads in all aspects. However the new 4 strokes are taking over and if you are really serious about racing, you might want to look at a 400ex or z400. I have an R because I dont race full time anymore and I think they are way more fun to play around on than a 4 stroker. I do believe my 450r was alot easier to race than my 250r.

Yea I think I can I have used a clutch and also I've ridden a sportsman 500

Not to offend you dude but there is a very big difference between using a clutch and being able to ride a 250r (you use the clutch A LOT) They are very fast and powerful machines. A sportsman 500 doesn't compare in any way shape or form.

trr440ex you beat me to it! you know nothing of power if you are comparing to a 500lb utility with a auto tranny. and to race a R takes more then just knowing how to use a clutch i would start with a 400ex or a z400 and if you think you need more in a couple years get a R trust me you have time. oh and to tripple up on your dads opinion of a R being a bad race atv HE KNOWS NOTHING sorry to be a duch bag but thats how it is. sorry

I'm 19 in a week and have been riding since i was 8 or so on a 300EX, to a 400EX, to my R. It's too much for a 12 year old with little experience, its too much for me and I bought it and have owned it for 2 years now.

The R has balls, and you have to know what you're doing to ride a 2 stroke race bike like the R. It's very capable in just about any kind of race situation you could imagine.

The 250R has probably won more races than any other quad has.

While I completely with all my soul disagree with your dad believing its not a good race quad, I'd recommend you look into getting a different quad.

By the way, the 250R quad was made from 1986-1989.

No question. Honda 250R was the only race quad until prolly 2001, there was a few years there you couldn't even buy an 89 for less than 4 or 5k.

I agree the 250r is a touch much. My first quad when I was 8 was a '87 pooooolaris 250. I jumped to an '87 LT250R when I was 11. Its not a Honda 250R but it was still a little big for me at the time and fast. I could hardly kick the thing over. But I did learn and got used to the quad and eventually started to ride pretty hard. That was almost 20 years ago, and now I'm running a Honda 250R :-)

I would also like to point out there wasn't many (performanced minded) entry level quads at that time either, as good as, there is today. The blaster or Honda 250X, which both sucked IMO.

i was 13 when i got my 250r. it has a paul turner motor. but i had been riding/racing for 10 of those 13 years. i got on my 250r and it scared me a little bit. but as long as you have respect for the machine u can handle it.

i race a blaster and practice my 250r. both have extensive work done.

and to the dude who said the blaster sucked. you ever ridden a race ready blaster haha. they are not as bad as people say

you would be better off to get a raptor 250. they seem great and they just made a class for that tipe of atv. the blaster needs some work to make it good enough to want to race. (not trying to knock it) and the raptor 250 is a 4 stroke so it will be much easyer to learn how to ride then a R.

Yeah, "sucked" is probably too strong of a word. For the record, I haven't ran a race ready blaster, didn't know those existed, but I have rode a buddies Trinity prepped blaster in the dunes. You can build anything to be fast, just depends on how much money you want to spend.

For me its the fact, that I stick out like a boner-in-sweatpants on a blaster.
