choices for dual-sports...?

im looking at getting a dual-sport for daily riding when i get my license.

tonight my dad took me to the bike shop to look at some.
i found a couple that i liked.
first is the yamaha WR250X

would a 250 be big enough for riding on the streets, enough power?

second would be the suzuki DR-Z400SM

i think this would be the better one to get because its a 400, and i know my 400ex can get up to 65 mph+, so im sure a dirtbike could do more.

the third choice would be the Honda XR650L

not sure i like this bike so much, its over 100 lbs heavier than the others, and i dont think that it would be able to hit the dunes.


what are your thoughs on these bikes, and do you have any suggestions?

i would say the 400sm is the best a friend of mine has one and he passed me doing around 80 in a wheelie and hes claimed it woul do around 104 or something like that it isnt the sm though its the mormal one

i was thinking about doing the same thing for myself next summer. i was gonna go with a ktm 525 offroad bike and convert it to the street though. i saw one like that going down the road at my friends house a couple weeks ago and it was pure insanity...i feel in love. lol.

right now im lookin at a husqvarna sm 510. its there supermoto bike its road legal. weighs 260lbs over 60hp read on a review not sure if thats its actual horse power. http://husqvarnausa.com/2008/SM_SM510R.html heres the link to the bike i like the looks of it just take the mirrors off.

my dad doesnt want me gettin something that big yet, since it will be my first street bike, and i still want to be able to put some dirt tires on it and go trail riding or a paddle for sand dunes.

i think ill be gettin the yamaha 250 and finish out high school with that, and if i still want to ride, ill go for a bigger Super Motard.

id get the ktm 450exc they come street legal but there basically a dirtbike, my next choice would be the yamaha then the suzuki

if the wr is anything like the yz its quite a bit quicker than the suzuki

it looks like ill be getting the yamaha WR250X.
its got a couple less ponies but it is much more nimble than the DR-Z400SM.

its also 10MPH slower but i dont think i'll be gettin to 94+mph that much:rolleyes:

the WR-X has been getting better reviews than the DRZ.
