How much do i have to take off of my 400 to get to the pilot jet??

seat/fenders, airbox, and finally the carb.
not hard to do at all.

not the gas tank?? im trying to do it the easiest way possible.. i gotta change my pilot..

I'm not sure if the older styles are different, but you'll probably have to remove the gas tank too. It's like 2 bolts....super easy. Drain the carb, unhook the fuel line running from the tank to the carb, unscrew the two bolts underneath the handlebars, and walllaa...

on my 2000 (same body style) all i take off is the side panels. i am able to then disconnect the fuel line, unhook the cable from the carb,and loosen the clamps, then wiggle the carb out of the hole and spin it to disconnect the cable. ive had it off so much it takes like 5 min. i now have the 450r carb which is easier but i did it this way with the stocker also. you will need to move the airbox boot out of the way too
