Differences in model years.

What are the differences in the model years of the 450r's.


Did 04 05 have a different carb?

Were the shocks a little different?

What should you pay attention to if buying used?

Swingarms, rear shock, linkage and I think carb changed from 04/05 to 06+.

If buying used. I would look to make sure that the bearings are all still in good shape. Not much rust. Make sure it isn't leaking oil, or anything.. thats really all I can think of... Good luck with your purchase. :)

piston compression and bore and stroke are different too, e-start only available 06up, front suspension are all different. they are similar but completely different if that makes any sense. IMO. i have both and like my 05 better.

Thanks man, that is encouraging. I have heard mixed reviews on the changes/improvements they made on the 06+ models.

How much of a difference does the compression and gearing changes make?

I have two more questions.

The owner said it only had 30 hours on it, when will it need a rebuild?

Also, who likes the 05's better than the 06's?

this is what i would do: if the price difference was close id choose the 06up, i'd also sit on both and see which one i felt more comfortable on, also do you want to be lazy and use and e-start or do you want to kick? id answer that question to my self.

when it came down to me buying my second quad for duning i decided i'd be lazy and push a button to start it. but for racing and building i chose my 05 cuz it weighs less, has a kick start, and you could put more compression on them. JMHO

i personally like my 05 more for racing but for crusing around i like my 06. you really cant make a bad mistake on either. but like i said if the price is close get the 06up.
