oil changes and precautions on the 450r

Whats this i hear abou changing oil every 5 hours? seems out-landish and what other engine preps are a must for the 450 thats not just for other bikes?

These engines hold less than a quart of oil. It doesn't take long for the oil to break down and lose it's viscosity. The oil will be black within a couple hours run time. I change my oil (both sides) and filter after every race/ride.

As far as preventive maintenance, before each ride I do the following.

- Clean air filter
- Coolant level
- Tire pressure
- Chain slack (stock chain will probably need adjustment after every ride)
- Make sure the tierod ends are tight
