No offense but it sounds like a ticking time bomb just waiting for parts to break.

i have a bunch of friends with yfz450's and the parts are very very expensive. if the bike was that good he wouldnt want to trade it

Compared to most 450's, its one of the cheapest to get parts for.

I also think it depends on the year

2004: Don't trade. They literally were ticking bombs and were only 439cc. Stiff suspension. Hard seat. etc.

2005: Ehh, i'd consider it. 50/50 I don't know. They fixed most of their problems but still had a few small ones. Made the suspension 100x better and seat a lot softer.

2006: Go for it. They had almost no problems here and made the shocks even nicer, along with some other improvements.

2007: Definitely. A couple more small adjustments and slightly better shocks i believe.

2008. Same answer as above.

But also, you have to take into consideration the fact that it was probably majorly beat on if it needs a rebuild. Also, rebuilds are f'ing expensive on any 450 because of the Nikasil cylinders, titanium valves, etc.

lmao those yfzs are known to love going to the shop , yfzs suck on tight technical trails they CLUNK out easliy do to the light flywheel and motor setup, there fun qauds but like any performance motor they need and love to be reved and not very lugable so there not the best for the tright trails that ure ex can lug and chug aroud on and are high maitence motors to BOOT ...

Why does everyone say these are high maintenance motors. If maintained properly and not modified , these can be very reliable.

How many people do you know that keep their 450 stock and maintain religiously?

well, i decided...400ex all the way. its good enough for me, and i heard they wil last for ever if you do the adjustments and oil changes on time. what do you guys think about an aftermarket lightweight flywheel on a 400ex? the previous owner put one on my 400, should i take this off?

VERY GOOD. keep the honda. they handle much better and are darn near bullet proof. and if you do have to work on it they are easy, and parts are cheep.

I agree with keeping the 400EX in this case.

I DON'T agree that the 400EX handles better than a YFZ though.

yes, the 400ex handles better. atleast with my 250r ohlins shocks. it lowered the ride height.:D
