I have a mystery motor. is it long or short rod? how to tell?

i bought a motor for a spare. last night i tore into it to see what all it needed. it was WAY past time for a rebuild!!!

I have no idea what year the engine is. the rod has KA4 on the side of it.

how can i tell if it is a long rod or short rod?

KA4 is a short rod crank

So if it is a long rod what does it say? All I can see is "Made in Japan" on one side and an H near the bottom on the other side.

I can't see the KA4 but I'm afraid I just don't see it.

Long rod should say HA2

It must be some type of aftermarket rod because all it has is an italicized "L" inside of a circle then "MADE IN JAPAN" and then on the other side there is an "H" toward the bottom and nothing else.

If it is a long rod should the piston hit when I put the 86 jug on? It doesn't. If I get down just eye level with the jug and crank it over, I can see the very tip top of the piston when the dome is off.

you' probably have to run a spacer plate if you have the long rod w/ the 86 piston/jug
