Hello,
I have a 1999 Honda TRX400EX that has been sitting for about a year. I have gotten it started and it will warm up and rev if it is choked, and it will idle when not choked. when it's not choked and idling if i give it the slightest touch of throttle to rev just a bit, it blows back air into the carb then dies. a friend said it sounds like a timing issue but it was running fine when it was parked. any ideas here?

thanks

Bad gas. possibly air filter (mouse nest) clogged jet, air leak..

It's going to be something in the carb or airbox. First I'd drain the gas, then take the carb out and take the float bowl off and drain it out, blow out all the jets and passages, ect.

Then check the airbox and make sure something hasn't crawled in and made a nest or something.

Then fill it up with gas and it should be alright. The timing doesn't go bad from just sitting around.
