I figured they had a quad in mind when they put that counterbalancer on the CRF450! It's a potent and light motor, so if they de-stroke it to 440 (so it will be legal in the 265/440 class) it should put honda on top of the game again.
The CRF/EX quad has been a rumor for a year or so, did you hear some new news on it? Honda is always late in the game to bring out a competitive bike but when they do they usually dominate.

The CRF 450 dirtbike is rated at 55 Hp.
Im as anxious as the rest of you for Honda to release a new sport ATV. We can all relax, when they do, you know it will be one mean machine.

no doubt guy honda is making a high performance quad the frame will be simalar to a 400 frame if not the same, it will have high end tunable suspension, longer travel, and also the crf 450 motor will be modded slighyl and destroked to a 440 i would think also made more easy to take care of the crf is known for hard and annoying matainence
but i know this quad is coming and also think there will be a 650ex in the works also
the crf quad will be unbeatable and much much faster than a raptor no doubt guy
top speed will be around 75 80 mph just cause they dont want to make it go any faster cause of stability and insurance reasons but i bet it will do much more easily

if they stroke it down to a 440. wont it be like a 400ex with big bore kit. also will it be better than the 650 ex. what price can we expect cus if this comes out 4 get the 250r i was gunna get. also how much power do u think it will have like what gear u think it will wheelie in no clutch use my guess would be 1st,2nd,3rd,and 4th lol thanks peace

i just found out that honda was supposed to put the crf450 in a quad show but the factories have too many 400exs. soo honda is waiting untill the 400exs sell and should reliese the new crfs in late 2003. this is what i heard and it should be right i cant wait lol these crfs will kill anything in speed power and trail mx drag racing anything. it will rip... peace

dirtwheels is like a tabloid for quads. they are biased and lie so they can influence what goes on in the atving world. whatever you do, DONT believe something just because "the dirtwheels guys said so". could honda be making a crf450EX? maybe. would they make a 650 EX? highly doubtful. it will be either one of the 2, either the 450 or 650, and most likely the 450.

yea what he said, theres no need for another craptor, they suck

11-24-2002, 01:09 PM
no you are wrong
dirtwheels have many spy's that work for them how could they be number one mag if they didnt have inside scoops
everytime they have said something about a new quad it had come out somtimes not right away
honda will make a pure out racer with high hp and greta handling and suspension for the consumer racer they will make this quad i know cant tell how i knbow but i know this quad is coming
also they are gonna make a 650 too this quad will be the comp
quad against the 660 and 650's they will make a big bore quad
you wait and mark my words these two quads are on there way
dont try to tell me dirtwheels is wrong cause i am loyal to them and everytime they predict something it happens its proven

I talked to a Honda rep. and he said you will never see a 450F engine in an ATV chassis. He said it requires too much maitenance. Its made to be raced then worked on.

Heres a thought. Not saying it will be put in a quad and Im not saying it wont, but just consider the possiblity...
Honda makes a scooter, its called the "Silverwing" The silverwing is powered by a 52 horsepower, fuel injected 600cc fourstroke.
Honda is known for producing break through machines. Cannondale has that powerful fuel injected motor. What is stopping Honda from putting this motor in a sport quad?
This motor gets my vote.
...food for thought.

Honda is very image-concious. They won't ever rush a machine out just to get something out there before competitors do (like Suzuki did with the Z400). They make sure it's thouroughly R&D first. Thats why they didn't bring out the 250R until suzuki dominated the racetracks for a year with the LT250. They didn't bring out a personal watercraft until this year even though the other manufacturers have been at it for almost 20 years. They also don't want to bring out a quad that will be ballistic and hurt everyone. The 250r's stopped being produced partly because of the EPA worrying about 2 strokes and the people getting killed on race bikes (The molded fender warning label on 250r's say "For expert riders only!"). That is why the new Suzuki is called a QuadSport and not a QuadRacer like the previous machines.
The good thing is that when they do bring something out it usually whoops everything else out there. Honda may be trying to sell off the remaining 400ex's but that isn't going to be easy with the Z400, KFX400, cannondale, predator, and craptor hammering away at honda's market share. I think they will be forced to stop dragging their heels and bring out a crf (or some other motor design) to compete. I just hope by the time they get it out, suzuki hasn't already one-upped them with a 440, or yamaha with a YZ440 quad.
Honda needs to wake up and smell the coffee. They put so much money into their MX bike teams yet quads have been outselling bikes like crazy.

I agree
This is getting old, its all speculation guys. We don't even know if they are gonna produce one and frankly I don't care either. If it comes out fine but there is no use in talking about it, when we know nothing about the machine.

I have a question, isn't the YZ450F a lot more powerful than the CRF450?

i also heard it was supposed to be released in late 03 in atv sport.
the crf450 has too much maint. invovled to be slapping it in a quad chassis for jim bob on the farm to buy that never changes oil in it. Believe me,,it's not going to happen...and yes this subject is gettin real old and i don't even know i wasted my time to type this..:huh
