My dad and I are rebuilding the rear end and when we took the carrier out we noticed that the carrier is real messed up or looks that way and I was just woundering if everyones looks like that and its just how it was cast?

heres the other side. The reason i'm woundering is cuz we need new bearings too and we will pry end up getting a new axle, swingarm and carrier someday so I was thinking it would be better just get brand new and have a spare rear end so that if I sell it I can part all the aftermarket stuff out and it would be nice to have the spare rear end at the races if something happened or if something broke I wouldn't have to wait to order a new one for a few weeks.

mine looked like that . I dont think it is bad but if your not carefull taking the bearings out it might bust easy.

Nausty that thing looks bad. mine looked new and it had been in there for about 3 1/2 years(previous owner). i dont think its doing any harm tho. prolly just the casting cracks.

When you take the bearing out use the heat from a torch and the bearing will slide out like butter on hot toast.

the carrier looks fine! def dont use heat because you might melt the seals for the bearings. The bearings are easy to slide out anyway. i rebuilt a 250r rearend with my friend NTP22 and the bearings just popped out. and another reason why you shouldnt use heat is because i believe the carrier is aluminum. if not correct me on that.

Before you put heat to the carrier it is best, no you should have already taken the seals and don't reuse the old seals. There is nothing wrong with using heat. If you go to the FAQ and do a search you will find that it should say to use heat in the area of the bearing to lossen it up. Make sure that you wear a glove so that you don't burn your hand.
