Cutting the air box lid wont help anything. Taking the whole lid off doesnt help very much. You need to cut the side of the air box 1" all the way around.

are you talking 1inch holes, or taking the complete bottom off?

I think he's talking about cutting an inch away from the sides of the airbox.

He means 1" off of the top of the box all the way around.

oh, alright man, thanks. I wonder how well this would work: I was thinking about cutting the sides and the back but leaving the corners for like support but in the openings on the side put a perforated aluminum on there? Pretty open but still giving some protection for mud and other crap... lemme know if this doesnt make sense

I tried cutting the sides and back of mine 1" down but leaving the back corners so the lid would still fit on in really muddy conditions but it still wasnt enough. I was able to tell this by putting my quad on the dyno at my work.

so if you take 1 inch off he top does the lid not go on any more? and do you mean by the side? It may sound like a stupid question but I am new to this and dont wanna mess it up?

Yes once you cut the air box the lid wont go on anymore. You cut 1" off the sides and back of the box where the lid goes on. Doing this cuts off the back tabs for the air box lid but this is needed to get enough air in the airbox.
