Which of these two quads is better for MX racing, i know the Raptor 350 is bigger, but i tihnk its more of a heavy trail bike, and the 300ex is seen racing more.

Well, this question popped into my head the other day when this kid in my science class, who tihnks he knows everything about everything started argueing that the Raptor 350 is made strictly for MX Racing when the 300ex is only a trailbike, which really agrivated, because ive seen like, 2 mx raced 350s, when ive seen hundreds of 300ex's...so i kinda want to get your outlook on this because i know i dont have half the knowledge of most of you. And i want everyones oppinion because i might be biased on acount i own a 300ex...and he owns a raptor350.

ive ridden both, i used to have a 300ex, and i have a friend with a raptor 350. they cant really be used for any type of riding with the right mods. but t back to your question, i have seen TONS of 300ex's race MX.

Raptor 350 may be a bigger engine but it weighs more and is IMO a utility with smaller raptor plastics. get a 300ex man.

I race on a regular basis and have only seen one Raptor, and many 300EX's. So tell this kid Yamaha sucks and Z400's rule lol No really 300ex's have beenaround a while and R far better than a Raptor in my opinion

The 300EX has been around since 1993. The 250X (same bike with smaller bore and stroke and a kick start) started in 1988 and ended in 1992. So lets see the 300EX/250X has been around since 1988.... Thats 20 Years.... and has only undergone mild tweaks to the bike since then. Its an obvious choice of which bike is superiour between the two.

The raptor 350 has been around since 87:p

The Warrior came out in 87' I believe, and since then, it hasn't changed accept for the headlights.
After the warrior wore itself out, they took the engine and many other things from the warrior, stuck them in the raptor 350 and put snazzier plastics on it.

So basically, the raptor has been around longer and IMO would be a better MX quad.

1) More sportier suspension. Whereas the 300ex has softer suspension for trails, and less travel. 300ex handles better in trails, but I think the 350 would be better on the track.
2) More power

If you bought a raptor, you can make one hell of a MX bike with the following:

446 Big Bore - Cam - Carb - Exhaust - Intake - Porting

+2 A-arms
+4 axle
Aftermarket shocks
Offset rims

The 446 kits make about 42hp, which is plenty for MX. After the suspension mods it would also handle pretty damn good.

Stock for stock, its a tough choice, but if you mod the both of them, I think the raptor 350 is more capable.

Hmm... your wrong. Warrior stopped being made in 2004. Meaning they had the warrior and Raptor 350. Two completely different bikes. Similar engine. Completely different frame and ergonomics if i am not mistaken. Also you saying they were made one year earlier than the 300ex. But they stopped being made earlier than the 300ex so the 300ex has been around longer. 300EX with all the mods you said. and a 395cc big bore. Is a much lighter faster bike than a Raptor 350.

i t6hink that the 300ex has alot more power potential becase of the 4 valve head. i know of 330ex's that can beat piped and cammed 400ex's. IMO, they handle better than the rappy 350

Where did I bash the Honda in that?

Just curious, because I didn't say anything bad about it. All I said is that the 300ex handles much better in the woods, while I think the raptor has a little more potential. They are both bullet-proof engines, but the raptors engine has been around longer. The yamaha has a little more travel and stiffer suspension, while the 300ex has softer, more trail-friendly suspension.

The raptor 350 is a warrior for all the misinformed. All yamaha did was change the plastic and the gear ratios in the trans to make it a lil quicker in acceleration. Everything from a warrior any year will swap onto/into a raptor 350.

The warrior is a slow trail machine and not worth the money to mod. I know at least 5 or 6 people with modded warriors that will back my statement.

The 300ex would be a better MX machine because you can swap 400ex and 450r suspension parts onto it and have a killer budget racer.

Our 300ex has a complete 400ex front end and its awesome. The back has a +2 swinger and a raptor 660 rear shock. Works perfect.

You cant do that stuff with a warrior.

I agree the 300ex is an awesome thing to have because you can just bolt on 400ex a-arms and such. Really easy and cheap to mod and it will be pretty quick

the raptor 350 is almost identical to the warrior except for plastics, the way the front bumper mounts, heel guards, rear bumper, and front bumper, maybe some other very minor things, and the warrior did come out in about '87 and all they changed was the lights a-arm angle, and maybe the handle bar style. Trust me i know warrior, i've taken the damn thing apart enough:)

And? They still died out before the 300EX Meaning the 300EX has gone longer. 300EXs are still made today.

i don't care which has been out longer, that has nothing to do with it being better at mx, besides if you want to do mx why wouldn't you just get a 450?

I had a 250X at 12. Traded with my dad for a 94 300EX because i hated the kicker... had the 94 300EX till 15. Got an 01 300EX in september rode that for 7-8 Months. And got an 04 450R now.
