I'm thinking of putting a Z400 motor in my Laeger 300ex frame and will need to mount the motor through the swingarm. Ideally I'd like to use an 86-87 style Laeger swingarm but have not come across one in a blue moon. I figure an aluminum 450R swingarm is second best.

However, I need some info regarding the 450R swingarm swap.

1. Is the distance between the bearings the same as an 87?

2. Which year linkage would I use and does it need adjustment or spacers?

3.Can I use a complete 450R axle, bearing carrier, hubs etc? Will it all line up with the sprocket?

4. If I use a 250r axle, do I have to use a 250R bearing carrier or 450R bearing carrier?

RPM told me 450R and 400ex axles aren't interchangeable but 400ex and 250R axles can be swapped, so wouldn't that mean that 450R and 250R axles aren't interchangable?

5. Which length swingarm is equivalent to an 88 length - 04/05 or 06-08?

Anybody with a 250R and a 450R can chime in with measurements and that would be helpfull or if Jon370R has some input that would be great.

When I get this going, I'll post up some pics and details. Just need to know the best route first.

look on the bottom of page 2 or somewhere on page 3 for a thread called 86/87 swinger mod. it details the 450r swingarm swap. 04/05 are the ~ 88/89 length and 06+ are the ~ 87/86 length.
