My buddy wants either a yfz or a trx and has a tight budget so I found this one which is in it budget. What should we know and what should be aware of? What common problems or concerns should I look for and ask about? Is 2900 bucks a fair price for a completely stock and very clean looking '04(at least it looks really clean in the pics). I know there is an issue with the cranks on the '04's, is that covered under a recall or anything if it were to develope? Also my buddy is a little guy, how difficult are these to kick over and start?
Thanks
Doug
P.S Any advice will be awesome!

that seems like a great price, the crank problem isnt really an issue after about 10 hours of ride time, and it is super easy to kick over. Im 13 and weigh 130 and i can start mine on the 1st kick everytime

Check for cracks in the frame, by the peg mounts and the top frame tube above the top motor mounts. Also check to make sure the guy took care of it. Make sure the carrier bearings are still good, pull the plug and check that. See what the clutch cover looks like.. If the paint is really worn off It probably has a good amount of ride time on it. If the paint is barely scuffed he probably hasnt rode it much.

Is the crank issue really that much to be concerned about?

no it isnt if the bike has more than about 10 hrs. Almost all cases of crank problems that ive heard of were either from built motors or brand new bikes.
