valve cover stripped bolts

i have an 01 400ex and the threads on about half of the valve cover bolts are stripped, how do i fix this? they are that way from the last owner, the threads don't even catch to the head.

Is there a way that you could get a demil tool, with a blade, cut a SINGLE ling across it, then use a screwdriver and then replace it once out? Just an idea.

Go get the correct helicoil kit, at an auto parts store or online. it has directions on how to use it , it is simple and will repair the damaged threads and is strong too.

where can i get new valve cover bolts cheap, some backed out when riding and are gone. i just need a kit for all of them because they are all different sizes and dont know what i need

N/p but your idea does work when the head is stripped.

If the threads were stripped on the bolts, he would just need to buy new bolts. If the threads in the head were stripped THEN you would want to look at a helicoil kit :p

For the bolts you can order them through Service Honda or C&D racing on here should be able to get them for you. Could also order them from a dealer but you might get some unwanted markup on them.

any one know of a machine shop around bloomington illinois? think i might take it there and get it tapped out
