I used to put them on backwards, with the flat side towards the wheel. Then I bought some chrome lugs that were flat, not tapered and thats what I use now.

I use tappered as well, What seems to be the problem when your trying to put the stock ones on? They shouldn't be any different than the stock rims.

The stock wheels are designed for a tapered lug. The baja wheels wheel get messed up if you dont put the flat side on them.

if you put the taperd side towards and aftermarket rim it will pinch the rim against the bolt making it near impossible to get the rim off.

Flat side goes in, and it is best to put a washer under it as well!!!

The rim is relatively soft aluminum, and will easily crush under the weight of the steel bolt. Eventually, even with the flat side in, it will work the metal down until it will be hard to get the wheel off the studs.....the wahsers will prevent this!
