i have been looking at 400ex's for a while now, and havent found anything that i liked in my price range, well that is, until today. i found a rolling chassis 400ex, all complete but missing the engine for $300. do you all think it is worth the hassle to get a motor and put it in? if yes, ( i was thinking yes), i need a motor. would prefer it to be stock, and cheap. or if anyone has any other suggestions, but it has to be cheap.

Buy it.

If all else fails, turn around and sell the roller for 500-600 bucks.

a 400ex engine shouldnt be to hard to find on ebay...

yeah man. it sounds almost to good to be true. i would check everything out and make sure it has a clear title. make sure to go over everything with him and ask him if there is anything else wrong with it. even if it is a 99 model and a LITTLE beat up 300 bucks jus sounds like something is wrong for just those couple parts to be missing.

im not tryin to bust your bubble or anything man. just lookin out for you to make sure you dont get ripped off. double check everything. good luck. hope everything runs well.

ask him when the last time he ran it was to?

it is a 2001 model, and i cant really ask the guy about the quad. one of my buddy's uncle died, and it was his quad. then some relative tried to take a few parts off, and that is all i really know. according to my buddy it is in fairly decent condition. gonna get it tomorrow after i get off work.

picked it up today, not in that bad of shape. needs a few small things. here is what i noticed it needed just glancing.
handle bars
full exhaust system
front bumper
battery
cdi
voltage regulator
air filter
starting cylinoid
nerf bars ( i want theses)
tail light
chain( rusted badly)
new tires ( could use them, but doesnt have to have them)

I also got the full story on the quad. the guy bought it new, and it was stolen. they people that stole it had it a year, they were caught, and it was in impound for a year. whoever stole it did not beat it much. they did grind off the vin number on the front, and was wondering if there was another one hidden anywhere else on the bike.

damn man thats a STEAL for that if it runs fine. even if it does need a little work still a damn good deal. ill buy it off ya for $400  ha just kiddin. nice find. and sorry to hear about your friends uncle
but addin those parts up just lettin ya know thats gonna be around $1000-1500 buckaroos. still a pretty good deal. post some pics up when ya get it runnin and all cleaned up. good luck brotha :blah:

edit- if its been sittin make sure ya clean the carb and intake up good. and theres probably gonna be some gunk in the gas tank to. anyways if that manifold hole where the header goes in is uncovered, i would cover it up so no trash or dirt gets in there while your waitin for an exhaust. once again, good luck. let us know if we can be of any help!

ds450maniac- i noticed the clutch lever does need to be replaced. the side panel i have, just not attached to the quad.

YZrida- im adding up the total right now. im not gonna buy everything new, just some of the small stuff. i plan to take it apart this week, im on spring break. we got one of those ultra sonic cleaners, so some things will go in there. there is a rag in where the header goes. you can see it in a few of the pics.
