Ok I have a trx 250r roller. I have money to buy a motor. I'm trying to decide what motor to get for it tho. I'm trying to decide between a 1987 trx 250r motor, a yz426 motor, or a crf 450 motor. I like to jump 4-strokes better then 2-strokes, and if I would get a 4-stroke motor, I have somebody that could put it in for me do the cuts, welds/adjust motor mounts. So which one do you think I should get. I dont want to sell my 250r roller because I like all the mods it has on it :/

Go with the 250r engine, or even get a power valve cylinder so it sort of feels like a 4 stroke...... But id go with the 250r engine.

go with a nice power valve R motor dont hack up the frame 2 strokes are alot more fun to ride and if done right faster and cheaper to maintain dont get me wrong I like 4 strokes im getting ready to buy my girlfriend a 450r and I'll prob ride it more than her but my 310R will always be my first choice over any 4 stroke

i would agree to run the r motor. its cheaper to make it fast plus no frame mods required. but it really depends on what type of riding you want to do on it, those four strokes sure do make good duners. theyre just so easy to ride. but for me ''goes fast'' is more important than ''a girl could ride it'' and money is always a big consideration as well. get the r put an esr, pilot, puma, or rotax cylinder on it and you will be right in the neighborhood of 60hp. it takes alot of money to get 60hp from the crf450.

x5, I would also go with the R motor. You've got an R frame, throw an R motor in it!

you had much experience setting up a 2 stroke engine as far as matching/setting up everything around where ya want its power to be?

well some of the best advice i can give ya is to do some research here on the board and elsewhere and educate yourself as to how things work together. pre-determine what riding you do the most of and set the engine and suspension up accordingly. you'll love it.
