Hey guys, just picked up an 05 400 ex in Yellow. I am going to change the oil in this bad boy, what is everyone putting in for oil, sythetic? What Brand, anything I should be aware of with this quad. Thanks I will get some pics up soon.

Congrats on your 400ex, I’ve always been a fan of yellow. I use the synthetic blend from Honda. I was told some where don’t use a fully synthetic, because it’s too slippery for these engines. Or maybe I got that confused with my 2 stroke :confused:

i like amsoil mcf 10w40, but u will get mixed opinons the main thing is to keep if clean if u ride in the heat of the summer synthetic would be a better choice

synthetic is fine to use if you get a 4 stroke (atv) specific oil.
if you just get automotive stuff, it will cause the clutch to slip.
i use valvoline 4 stroke oil myself. but just go to your honda shop/dealer and see what they suggest.

Just picked up some amsoil 0w-40 synthetic atv oil for it. Should be some pretty good stuff, I run amsoil in my sled.

It was $8.99 a quart at Rockys in Flint Mi.

I run synthetic blends in my vehicles and do 5k intervals but I simply change it too much in my ex to use anything but conventional. Valvoline 4-stroke oil for $3.50 a quart in my offroad machines.
