I am going to put a piston in my 04 and was wondering what every one else is running and how they like it. I dont mind running race fuel, but if can stay on pump gas thats good too. Im really open to any suggestions. I will be putting a cam and maybe carb on it too now. Any suggestion on those either, and or your setup/feedback would be great. Thanks.

well if you have a piston and crank put a hot cam stage three in. if you just got a piston and carb either a hot cam stage two or a 02 crf cam.as far as carb gose i think any one will tell you a fcr like a yfz or crf fcr carb.ohh and when i was at the org. ALOT of people use the venom 12:1 piston and it runs pump they said they loved it and was really reliable.Ive heard good things about JE and some bad things.but remember if you do put a high comp piston and crank and more motor work reliablity does go down im not saying on all quads but every almost every crank failure ive seen has a high comp piston and/or crank.dont get me wrong the crank bearing or crank can always go but all the worst one ive seen were pumped up engines.

I'm running a JE 14:1 compression piston in my motor. I mix 110 octane Torqo fuel with 93.....50/50. Seems to work great. I am running a HC stage 2, and it's ported and polished.

i HIGHLY recommend a DRG piston, there is not a better line of pistons out there...

but a cam maybe a better mod before the piston, if i was you i would buy a hotcam stage 2 and then buy a DRG piston.

I have a 40mm fcr off an 05' crf and i love it. Its a great mod for the 04' and 05' models. Alot better throttle response which makes a seat of the pants difference for sure. I'm running a JE 13:1 and have been for over a year now with no problems... just put new rings on in jan. I usually run 93/110 mix 50/50... runs strong. I am running a HC2 as of right now.. but plan to switch to a web 493 eventually. All this along with Amazing port work by Chad at DRG make me a super strong running motor. If i had to do it all over again though.. i'd get a 14:1 off of Chad. Whatever you choose to do... you will love it.
have fun;)

Im running a custom CP 13.5 piston, 03 CRF cam, with my head ported on straight C12..... Not a fan of mixing gas.

My setup:

CP 12:1 Piston / 02 CRF Cam / 07 CRF FCR Carb / Sparks Exhaust

Next step is head porting.
Already a strong bike though.

The mods that made the biggest difference for me was the cam and carb.

What I like the most is I don't have to run race gas :D :D
93oc pump.

Great to see ya around and that your happy!

Thanks pro-rider46 for your good comments too!

everyone has real good advice here,....

My advice is a cam, piston kit, port and flow, valves and BAM instant power.... LOL!

Agreed some of the best information I have gotten was from these forums :D

Oh and I run a HotC ams stage 1 w/ 13:1 JE port polish running straight VP 113E since the install of HC piston almost a year ago w/ no problems. Dropped to 13t front sproket lots of grunt in the bottom and mid for hills and trail cruising.
