but if i push start and let it get warm it fires right up but dosent run right

check your valve clearance. i would bet you got a couple of tight valves. and don't run it without checking them, you will do more damage.

if you don't have a manual now is a good time to get one.

do i need to replace them or reshim them

if you have zero clearance then the valves need to be replaced. if you have clearance then reshim.

i took my top end to a mechanic and he said everything else was ok after he refigured the exhaust valve seats cause it was losing compression now it fires up every time but i did notice that the intake cam was tight(no clearance)can i reshim and if so what size?stock 285

Get a manual!!! It will give you the correct tollerances for your valve shims.
