is there anything I can use to prevent my new plastics from melting near the kick starter?

no brainer .. remount the exhaust better move it away from plastic ..mod the mounts if needed

i maid a fender brace for mine and much more stable when leaning on the plastic wen cornering

Buy the heat shield stuff you stick to the underside of the fender to help reflect the heat? Cheap and effective from what i remember.

Use an ESR centermount pipe, no plastic melting worries at all. :D

You could also use it in conjuction with an exhaust wrap for even better protection.
