really hard to put a dollar amount on this. its up to how much you can do yourself. if you have to pay someone to do all the work it can get pretty pricey. i bought a whole bike for the motor from a shop for $300 but it needed a couple tranny gears. pulled the motor, electrical, carb and exhaust and sold the bike rolling chassie for $500. i bought the front mounts and air box from ss400ex. everything else i done myself so i kept the cost down.

i hate to be negitive but it would cost less to sell your ex for like $2000 and buy a 450r or another 450 for like $3000-$3500

I agree with him^
If you are wanting to do this because it's a fun project then go ahead. But you do not have enough money sunk into that 400 to justify such a big upgrade. If you had a decked out 400 and couldn't sell it for it's worth then it'd be worth it.

thats what we did, our 400 was totally decked out. when the 450 quads came out and it got to the point that we couldnt hang with them we built the hybrid. it was way cheaper for us to do that than start from stock again with a 450

yeah thats why i put the r engine in my ex. i would have got a 250r but the only thing stock on my ex is the swinger and the steering stem so i went with the hybrid
