My 88 250r is set up for track sytle riding. I want to set it up for woods riding, where do I start?

the motor is 0.010 over, it is not ported. Its running a 39mm keihin carb boyseen reeds with a spacer, k&n airfilters. It has an FMF Fatty pipe, and an FMF power-core2 silencer.

for a pipe go with a paul turner type 6

handguards

steering dampner

full fenders

low end porting

xc length arms/axle

the list goes on:rolleyes:

continuation of the list, in no particular order:

taller, more agressive tires
appropriate gearing for tires
skid plates
smaller carb gives better low end throttle response 35-36mm would be good on a stock motor.
some sort of toolbox to hold an extra spark plug and stuff

Have fun!

Thanks for the info.

What do you think about running a BR7EIX spark plug (NGK Irduium) and adding the non-programable Dyna FS Ignition? Will this help with fauling plugs?

no that's a to hot of a plug. if your fouling plug its due to jetting.

Don't go any hotter than 8 on the plug. 9s are better if you have higher than stock compression.

The Dyna CDI will help some on fouling-- plus give you a little sharper throttle response. But as stated previously, getting the jetting right will help immensely to reduce plug fouling.

Sounds like you are doing an electrical overhaul on your R.

Make sure the wire between the coil and spark plug cap is fully in place (by checking the resistance). Also make sure your ground is good.

Start out with a clean air filter, new spark plug, and fresh fuel when you set out to jet the beast.

Does anyone have any good directions on how to adjust the jetting?

What happens when you run a hotter plug (7 vs. 8)?

According to what everyone else said, my XC 250R shouldn't even be running. My set-up, if you're interested.

-Aggressively ported mid-top '86 cylinder
-2mm stroker long rod crank
-spacer plate
-Cool head with 20cc dome with '85 ATC gasket
-FMF Ram valve
-reed spacer
-stock 34mm carb, stock needle, 155 main, 48 pilot
-STOCK pipe, FMF silencer
-195 lbs. compression, on pump gas
-B7ES plug

For those who say this combo will not work, I can repost all the pics of holeshots this quad pulls over 450's and everything else in the class I ride. This motor pulls strong and smooth, plus it works great in the woods.
