I live in Canada and I have never heard of DDR quads until this week. They look super cool. I have a little guy who will be growing into a quad soon and I want to know where do i get one. Are they full on race quads? Are they dependable? Do they have any safety features? How much are they (50)?

Well I can answer a couple questions and I'm sure many will have a lot more to add...
I'm not sure the details bout getting one in Canada like if they're sold there or if ya can get one here and take it back but ..
As far as "FULL ON" goes it all depends on what you mean by that but they are race ready pretty much and are quite capable in stock form and at least from what I read I believe they are quite dependable (we have only had ours for a month or so) .
Unlike most minis the shocks actually have dampening and the springs are soft for kids. Also the fact that they have dual a arms, 400ex style (Ive been told) spindles (that ARE beefier than my YFZ 450 spindles) and hydraulic disk brakes and accept full size quad front rims and tires for "around" $2000 US dollors is just quite the deal!
My son has mabey 5 hours on his and now all he asks to do is ride! And ride he does! This thing is 1000% better than MOST standard mini quads w/ big company names (or ANY name) and cheaper too (in price NOT quality). Ive been racing/riding forever end let me tell you theres no skimping in quality.
I dont want to ruin the price on these but I was just talking to a riding buddy earlier today and I made the point to him that if he saw this thing and I told him I paid like $3500 for it Im sure he would beleive me.
I dont want to sound too excited but definatly worth the $$!!

Heres a vid of my son last weekend on it:

And dont forget the custom QUADSKINZ graphics you can get for www.QUADSKINZ.com (sorry had to plug em)

Nice Video! That thing rips for a kids quad.
What about the safety stuff. From the pictures it looks like the front sprocket is wide open and could easily catch some loose clothting or something. Also most of the major manufacturers put out a throtle limiter and a kill switch behind the quad. I could care less about the kill switch. I just want to know if i have to get a new thumb throtle for it so that i can slow him down. (personally I think my son would learn faster without but try telling my wife that!) What about maintainance and part availability? who makes the engine?

I really like this quad. It is way better than the suzuki LT 80 I grew up on.

P.s. I live in Alberta so if anyone knows of a dealer close to that side of Canada or the states that would be great. Let me know?

What part of Canada are you in? I have them available in the Minnesota area.

I am not sure about 2008's but in 2007 when I bought my sons it came with 2 rev limiters. One would top out at like 5-10 mph's and the other was the full out powerband. They also have a screw in the throttle that can help you keep the top speed down a bit as well. They dont have any type of kill switch in the rear but if you get him started really slow snd keep him there until he ready to speed up, then you shouldnt have any problems.

These things are about as reliable as they get. All of the little 50 bikes have pretty much the same motor. It is my understanding that the difference is the port timing on the cylinder, clutching, and pipe from the factory that make these so much faster than the suz, and polaris 50's...

I cant really answer the question about the sprocket because my son never rides his bike without gear on. Looking at it closely I cant see that it would be a problem, but I would be lying to you if I said that it wasnt because I just dont know from experience. Good luck finding one and feel safe that you have made a great decision in DRR. JR

Always wear boots ,helmet, and all safety gear when riding, A mini quad is not a video game, carnival ride, or a baby sitter.

Well it did come w/ more chain guards than whats on it now but I couldnt imagine for the life of me how he would get anywhere near the chain while its in motion and keep in mind the nerf bars keep him far from it and actually stock comes with foot wells that keep the front sprocket quite covered.
As far as parts go I dont think that theres more parts available for ANYTHING more than these (any) mini 50. These engines are in little quads and scooters in about every country in the world....google "JOG 50" and theres so many parts your head will spin.
Im not sure if ours has a throttle limiting screw or not but the factory cdi box has an easily removable limiter on it as well as a built in rev limiter...we seemed to have "lost" that cdi and has a non limited cdi on it for now.
Let me also add that as as far as stability goes Ive had him pretty much hitting turns wide open and mabey twice (so far) have I seen the inside wheels come close to lifting up and the brakes which are easy for little hands to squeeze stop on a dime!
And also as stated by someone else here...loose clothing is NEVER recomended when riding.

Trust me I believe in not riding in loose clothing. Deffinitly not a good idea. I just saw a picture on the web of a ddr 50 and it looked to me that the sprocket was all open. Chains and sprokets just don't fair well with little boots and feet.
Anyways it was a "Full Race Ready" bike and probably stripped down so not to worry. I am so excited to find one of these bikes. It will be great.

Any one in Rexburg/ St anthony Idaho area who has a DDR 50? I will be down to go to the dunes end of April and i want to see one!

Looks like i found the bike i want my kid to ride.

Well, you have made a good decision IMO!!!! The sprocket and chain can look like it is close in the pictures but it is actually inset about 6 inches from the peg and is pretty much impossible to get a boot in there. If you look at the second picture down on the above pictures, you can see how far the chain is inside the outer frame rail, and then you have to think about the peg being a few inches outside of and well below that. Good luck! JR
