Now i;m not trying to start s@@@ but personally ive never seen it happen but alot of 400ex's claim to have beaten a 450r weather it's stock or not.Now i would have to assume that the 400ex would be highly modded to do so and the rider must have alot to do with this and of course the distance really would matter too, but lets here it have you been beaten by a 400ex and what were your mods done to the r vs the ex.

ive seen a 465 beat my friends yfz barely, and the yfz only has a 13 to 1 piston, exhaust, air filter, jetted, and rev box, but thats in 500 ft. in 300 my friend beats it.

i have beaten a couple different 450's never in a drag but through the trails or track. But thats more rider skill and knowing your machine. Now get someone equally skilled as me and them on their 450r and me on my 400ex I will get my ***** handed to me lol.

cant tell you about the honda 450, but my girl has a 04 yfz, full DRD, pro flow intake kit, no lid. I was riding a 460ex, HC stg 2 cam, P&P, fmf powerbomb/powercore, no lid, K&N. yamaha was a tooth down up front, i think the honda was too(engine had just been built, was geared way up later)

and anyways, both bikes running geckos, 3 back to back runs, towards end of 5th I was always behind by maybe 1-2 bikes. wasnt rider either because we both raced at one point or another and we switched and raced twice back to back and I beat her by about 1-1.5

I put a 39mil FCR off a yzf onto it, but never got to really dial it in or race her with it, but i know that was all it would have taken and i would have a bike on her if not more. new owner says he beats his friends modded 07 YFZ which beats my girls 04.

I have seen a built 416 spank a bunch of piped/jetted 450's at Little Sahara. i went to talk to him but he was a prick and pretty well ignored us so I am not sure what it had done.

My son has a 2001 totally stock ex with only a 416 with a hot cam and he got the holeshot at the Somerset national in the 24C class and probably would have spanked them all if not for a broken oil line that put him out - Excellent machine for XC racing - Handles really nice in the woods

how do you know it was only a 416? also from readin on here and others, the stock carb was what was holding me back, the FCR is like night and day difference. probably wouldnt have needed such a big plant if I had the FCR earlier, but I cant voiuch for how much faser it is now but apparently it is tons faster.

My old 426 in a drag race would pull a bike or two away from a 450 that was bone stock. I've been beaten on my 450 by guys on big buck ex's, but I can honestly say that 400s with pipe and filter wont touch a stock 450.

wasnt beat by a 400ex but was beat by a kfx400 in a top speed drag, but then again his had stock gearing and i was running a 13/38 (i have an 05) so i didnt really have top speed. but i got to top speed 10x faster than him.

true 300' on loose dirt, hand started by 3rd party

440ex 14:1/cam/port/pipe/holeshots and peps shocks
vs
hrc 450r w/rossier stock tires & suspension

I hit a false neutral between 3rd and 4th gear (lost by a nose)
raced 12-15 times, I won all but the one by an average 3 lengths
traction was a real problem

I think it could have pulled a stock 450

Because he said it was a 416 but he didn't say anything about compression or cam or port and polish.

alright, well from what ive read and from what the guy told me, the carb is about the best thing you can do for a built 400, so i bet it wasnt a stock carb...

and hey 450rjam, sig says you got a 400 and a 450r, I read it as you had the 400, but then you say it could have pulled a stock 450, which leads me to beleive you were on the 450...

yes, I have both

I was on my 450 and my friend was on his 400

(my 400 isnt built enough to think about running a 450)

I think that a built 400 can win vs a stock/mild 450 but
rider skill plays a big part
(my buddy can ride)

been beat on the track alot of times by smaller cc machines. Alot of 400exs and z400s. On the track its mostly rider. now in a drag race thats a different story.

All i've got on my 450r is the hrc exhaust tip and i raced my friend atvmaster on this site on a dirt road/drag strip and i put 10 lengths on him or more and he's got a full yoshimura pipe an air filter 18 inch tires in the rear so there!

450rJam
03-23-2008, 10:16 AM
you make it sound like his pipe/filter make it a rocket?
and 18" tires are going to hurt it in a drag race

the drag race was like 150 ft long maybe so it'll help him for the acceleration off the line, but mainly i posted it so when he see's it he gets mad cause he thinks his 400ex is a rocketship.

ive got a built 05 trx 450r, ive been around alot of 400exs but none of them came close not even big bores. its mainly rider dependant!

We have a 400ex that puts a spankin on most of the 450s around here. I would say it is pretty close with our 450s depending on location and who is riding it. This is all in somewhat short drags.

450rJam

short drags is where my 450 has the advantage over my 400

I launch the 450 in 2nd gear and short shift to 3rd as the front gets light, half way through 3rd the race is already over

does this count as a 400

you got it running ? how is the vibration factor ?

on paper that is an awesome set up

the geometry and tight handleing of the 400ex but the power of the 450r

Gearing and motor mods aside, I think most of this question relies on the rider. A perfect example is a riding buddy of mine who bought a 450r right when they came out. He's a decent rider who was coming off a 400ex, but I feel that was plenty for him. Anyways after he got the R we would ride together alot, me on my ex and him on the R. Well in the woods it seemed he would always have trouble keeping up, obviously not so on the wide open sections. So I would frequently ask him at some point during our rides if he would want to switch machines for a little bit.

Now I see myself as a good rider and feel I can fully utilize the power of a 450. So when we switch I wouldn't expect him to be even close. Well as it turns out when he got on my ex he could hang right with me and I was no doubt riding faster than I would on my ex.. Strange eh? The only solution to this that I could come up with is that he was actually afriad or just uncomfortable on the R and the ex just better suited his riding style. I suggest a trade, but that didn't go over to well ha. Just another aspect that goes into this question..

i just witnessed a 400 win in Quad C against yfz's trx's and ltr's... it was pretty sad

and btw all those quads were decked out so none of them were stock

blasterfreak99

its all about rider. with my blaster (mods in my sig) i have raced at my local track five times. i have stock front shocks and a blown works rear shock with a plus three swinger so its REALLY soft. but my first race a got a 2nd overall, and the other times ive gotten two more 2nd places, a third and a fifth. i even pulled a holeshot on a whole field of 450s! anyways my point is its all about rider. ^^^that proves it

EDIT: oh and every one of the 450s atleast had an exhaust on it

ive done some work to a couple of ex's. one was stage 2 cam and port work. the other was a 416 11:1, 39 fcr, stage 2, port work. they both ran very well for what they are but nothing like my 450.
