my buddy is thinking about getting a yfz or raptor 660 and is bragging about how he'll be faster than my 400ex. read my signature, it tells what i have, who thinks i stand a chance?

The raptor will get you on a long run but the ex should smoke it off the line. And your buddy is right he will be faster but only on top end.

I have a stock engine 400ex with white bros slip on

buddie has stock engine with fmf slip on and powerbomb header 660 raptor and yes off the line I can get him until about 25 then he will get me by a length.

His boy wanted a ride on the front of his raptor weights about 80lbs. We raced again and I got him by two lengths. We goof off and race occasionally and this is allways the case.

drag racing? 300' or so?
with equal riders it would go.............
yfz / 660 / 426

but....................

they are close enough that rider skill can win or lose it

get them in the tight trails where the yfz cant use all its power
and the 660 will be bicycling around every corner and you can leave them (if you can ride)

like my88r said, your 400 will be running when the others are broken/rebuilding

get a cam/port/polish and you are right there

wow i didnt even notice that their was a YFZ in the line up until now lol...now i see it yfz,raptor,400ex opps but still the 400ex should kill the raptor off the line and maybe even the yfz but get smoked the 2 yahmahas in the end....

hotcams are one of the best reliable performance cams available

your prob. going to sink enough money into your 400ex that you could have sold the 400 and got yourself an already built 450

the 400ex is a super reliable, respectable powered atv

its not the best platform to build a drag quad

you say it has a ticking noise and you havent opened it up yet. theres a good chance someone already put a hotcams can in it...or maybe you just need to adjust your valves. what you mean it cuts out?

you can take both if you motor is built right.

Take it from me,the biggest bang for your buck is going to be suspension! With that you can use more of the power that you do have longer. You wont have to worry about braking too soon which means the faster your speed into the turns, the faster you'll be out of them, which wins races:D But if all you do is drag your buddy on his raptor,he'll destroy u every time:( Your a 250cc plus handicap:D

Yeap. I have beaten my cousin thatw as riding a banshee quite a few times in a drag. My quad weighed more i think and all that was done was the choke removed. he had 22" rear tires too and I was on 20" rears. We are about the same weight and he would get pissed his brand new $6,000 quad was getting beat by a $4000 used quad. Then he got pipes, boost bottle and a K&N. he claimed he would murder me in a drag. I didnt get a chance to race him but my other cousin, less experienced than me and about 20LBS lighter beat that modded banshee with my stock 400ex by a length. I think my cousin with the Banshee went home and cried that he spent $6,000 for a banshee and something like $600 or $700 in performance mods. Imagine if I got to spend $700 on perfromance mods for a 400ex?!!! Cam, piston, carb, exhaust... I would be hauling!

actually, your dollar goes farther when its being used on a 2-stroke. a set of pipes for the shee can cost only like 250 bucks, or maybe 300... for a decent respectable set. AND, with 700 dollars, he coulda bought enough parts to make a 400 look like a 90

with an average rider you would have be toast

there are fast quads out there getting blown away because
the guy riding it cant launch or bang a gear

and that was my point of it has a lot to do with the rider and how well you know your machine.
