Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to their quad? Not sure if weld is bad or paint is chipping away because of the frame flex in that area? Polaris dealer just sent pictures off to Polaris Corp. so we'll se what they have to say.

wow! that doesnt look too good! the only reason i would see thepaint chipping would be due to alot of flex in that area, and idk if thats an area id want flex! what year? looks to be an 08?

after seeing yours my 07 525 is doing the same thing and was wondering why as well. Let us know what you find out.

My 06 did that too. There is some flex there and with Polaris bad paint job. I cleaned it up and repainted it. It has been fine ever since then. My 07 never did it guess you frame got painted on a Monday ;)

That is still bs. I would say that they needed to compensate for a re paint or powder coat.

We pay way too much to accept major imperfections and that is over the line for me.

I just know that I have to give above par customer service in my job so I expect it with my stuff.

my brother in laws is doing the same thing, probably not cleaned real good before it was painted and little too much flex

The owner of the shop told me more than likely Polaris will send a new frame and the shop will switch everything over. PITA! That means new title also. I was hoping for a new bike. :D It's an 08 with 12-15 hours on it. Still looks new. I'll tell you all how it goes.

Like Bill said, bad paint there. Clean it real good and touch it up with a little flat black and it will be good as new.

Mine is doing it as well, no big deal. That is what happens, like many said, with cheap paint in a flex area. I haf owned 2 quads in the past 5 years and both had it happen. The Z400 had it happen at the front mounts and the 525 at the rear shock mounts. If it isn't cracking, clean it and paint it and don't worry about it!

Point #1 for brace kit :D

Before I let them put a new frame in there(it will chip also), I would have someone make some lazer or jet cut braces and well them in. If you are going to pull everything off the frame, you could have it stripped the right way, gussets put on and repowdercoated. Or rung what ya brung.

If they get you a new frame, take it and have it powder coated. It will look better longer. All 3 outlaw IRS I have owned did this. Its just paint cracking.

Yeah, that's still total BS though. We pay over 7 grand for these bikes they should be plated in gold.

meh, personally im not a gold fan :blah: but i think a gusset might be in order for that area, and then use powdercoat instead of paint

I do not think a gusset kit is needed. I have yet to hear a problem with any of the Outlaw frames bending or breaking. That is one thing Polaris got right on the Outlaw is the frame.

Like Eerhard said, paint chipping around a weld is pretty common if the weld is not cleaned well on other machines also. My Buddy has a YFZ and a 700 Rappy and both of them have flaking paint at the a-arm welds and my 350 Raptor has them around the rear frame support.

I agree with that /\ Guy

good point, it may be that the area wasnt cleaned properly... but it also may be from excess flex and that would make me want a gusset there, even tho there hasnt been any real issues...

Hey SSJEFF isnt there a dude on the other site (I'm not allowed to mention or they'll delete my post) that Polaris bought back his quad for a bent frame. Same spot and was causing chain sprockets to be misaligned/ popping off??

yes, but I don't think the cause was ever determined.

No his frame was not bent. In fact they bought him a new frame and it still did it. Sounds more to me that it had a problem in the tranny or rear housing causing his unique problem.

I have been racing/riding the Predator and the Outlaw since they have come out and am stablemates with John Gallager, so I get to hear the things others may not on these two quads. I know personally, from being a welder myself, that if after welding, the rod flux isn't completely removed, it is a weak point with any paint. Gusseting these areas creates more problems. The frames are made from a mild steel designed to flex so it doesn't break in more critical areas. The extensive engineering done on quad frames understand that they flex in these areas, as they are supposed to. If they took the time to clean each weld so it didn't do this, they would be more expensive than they already are. So you have to live with it, like it or not...
