I've been on this forum for quite a while, and one of the best threads I've ever read regarding 440 kits (or engine building in general, for that matter) is below. If you bought a kit with a Wiseco flat-top 11:1 89mm piston, you need to read this thread in it's entirety. It will explain why people incorrectly think that a 416 will beat a 440. You may be able to save a good chunk of money and get the peformance you're missing by having your cylinder decked to achieve the proper compression ratio and squish band. It's kind of a long read, but it has a ton of information and will help you make the most of your engine. I think this thread is pretty old, so if it doesn't mention it, I would highly suggest getting professionally installed heavy duty head studs if you tear your engine down.

Happy reading:

I'm sure you can but that is one hell of a waste of money! You could pick up a used cylinder and have it bored for under $100.

It goes with any piston. There's a good explanation of this in "ask Mickey" part I or II in the tech articles here.

actually what you could do is go with a new 440 b/b sleeve and use it in it's raw form and use the corresponding piston. this will give you the 416cc's your after. otherwise you'll have to get another stock oem cylinder and have it bored to a 416 as previously mentioned.

I thought the BB sleeve was around a 426, not a 416.
