so i was talkin to a guy today he says i should run a higher octane and that it would be fine on the motor no problem currently i run 93 i have a 440ex with 11to 1 compression anyone know if this would help or change anything on my quad

it might make it run a little better, maybe a little more power

as long as you don"t have spark knock then your probably fine. and higher octane only makes the machine run cooler it dose nothing for performance its just used for higher compression situation.

so higher octane makes engine run cooler i always thought it was the other way around

11.1 is on the edge of higher octane and you have a 440 which gives off much more heat so I would run a blend with maybe 70%93 and 30% 100 or something.

just for the hell of it today i bought a 16oz bottle of 104 maximum boost from napa.I rode it for about an hour or so and was surprised that wow it actually worked pretty good, better throttle response and seemed to get up and move a little quickier. Now im not saying its better than race fuel but more or less just bought it to try out.It comes in a 16oz bottle and treats up to 25 gallons of gas so i mixed 3oz of booster with 2 1/2 gallons of gas and well it did pretty much what it say it does, just made my engine feel a little more responsive.

next week i will be trying a product from Rockymountain its called Cal Rocket fuel its supposed to (Will boost your octane 4 to 7 points.
Comes in a clean and convenient disposable tube.
Mix 1 tube with 2 to 6 gallons of gasoline. ) i will let you guys know how it is but all most all the reviews for it say about the same thing as i have described for the 104 max boost but at only $1.39 a pop i bought 6 of them for the price of one 16 once bottle of 104.I will be testing this Rocket fuel in 2 quads my 400ex and a 91' 250x we will see what happens next week.

Oct boost is not the same as running a good race fuel through your motot trust me. Though its better then running strait 93 you will notice a big dif with 1oo oct 93 1;1 mix

from what i hear most octane boosters are really not worth using. they try to trick you into thinking your getting a HUGE boost, but most the time when they say it will boost your octane like 5 points it is really .5.

higher octane isn't meant to make your engine run cooler, it's for higher compression engines because it detonates later than a lower octane gas (87-93 typically)

in your case, i would aim for a higher octane because 11 to 1 is a pretty good number. 93 probably wouldn't hurt it, but it'd definitely run a little better with say 100 or slightly higher.

lol, and octane booster f**ks up your o-rings in the carb.. if you wanan miz higher octane get race fuel and mix it with 93 octane from local gas place.. i did reserach on it becuase i wanted an edlebrock 440 carb..

yeah i heard of octane booster eating up your lines and gunking up your carb.

Higher octane fuel cools better because it has a bit of alcohol in it. The alcohol doesn't just cool by it'self it mixes with water in your fuel system so it draws the water through the combustion chamber and cools your engine that way too.

Octane rating is not the same as octane points. 10 octane points=1 number on the rating.

Aviation fuel is not formulated to be run at ground level. It's made to be run in an airplane engine at higher altitudes. Even though it's a very high octane number you don't get the benefits because your engine is not efficient enough to burn it completely. Just find some Sunoco 100 or VP 100 unleaded.

yeah havin a hard time findin it i can get some vp 104 octane for 65 dollars for 5 gallons is that a rip off or is that just me?

All I know is that where I live I can get Sunoco 110 leaded for $5.85/gal VP C12 for $6.75/gal and C16 for $8.25/gal. $65 for 5 gallons sounds extremely steep to me.

Aviation fuel is perfectly fine to use in a quad and has been done for years. If you have E85 locally that's another option for gaining octane but it takes some tuning.
