This may sound odd but, it works great.

Remove the rubber seals. Preheat your kitchen oven to 300 degrees, than put the axle carrier in for 15 to 20 minutes. Use oven mits to remove the carrier and tap the end against a piece of wood and the bearing will fall right out. Repeat the last step to remove the other side.

The trick is that the aluminum carrier expands quicker than the steel bearings and a visible gap is present when you pull it out of the oven.

To put the new bearings in simply put them in the freezer for 15 minutes while you reheat the carrier in the oven and they will drop right in.

Important note: Let the carrier cool at room temperature. DO NOT shock cool it.

I basically do the same thing except no oven.

1) Put on a pair of gloves

2) Slam the end of the carrier down against a block of wood (the end with the slots for adjusting the chain tension)

3) First bearing falls out

4) Use a socket and an extension to drive the other bearing out

I don't heat it or cool the bearing down when installing. I do have the Honda specialty tool though for installing the new bearings that make it a snap.

I am not allowed in the house when working on the quads let alone putting anything in the oven. I got in trouble the other day for coming out of the bathroom and washing my hands in the kitchen sink. I am just here to pay the mortgage. :ermm:

So after I heated it up, the bearing came out no problem, then I cooled off the new bearings, and warmed up the housing just a tad bit. They went in with some of a brass hammer...

thanx guys!
